Tyler, The Creator - CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST
87

This is the album I wanted to hear from Tyler. Some west coast, 90's-esque hip hop where he's absolutely rapping it up. I always liked some of the more gritty songs from Tyler's earlier catalog, and he took that style and implemented it perfectly. Also implementing ideas and concepts from Flower Boy and Igor, this feels like the culmination of everything he's been working towards so far.

This album is quite a pleasing experience. Lots of soul, the production from tyler is insane and his rapping stacks up with it. This is one of my favorite albums from front to back and has influenced a lot of my music taste over the past 5 years. Certified classic.

Interesting rock journey. Super consistent release, although some of the songs can start to feel a little stale after awhile. Almost makes me feel like I'm doing psychedelic drugs.

Favorite Song: Parabola

Linkin Park - Meteora
86

I've listened to Session a lot and have never checked out the rest of this album apart from the hits. Incredible from front to back, it's such a fun listen. Amazing vocal performance and guitar tones, extreamly great half hour of your time. Hard to pick a favorite.

Favorite Song: Faint

Speed - ONLY ONE MODE

Incredible album. 23 minutes of non-stop beatdown hardcore. There isn't a bad moment throughout the tracklist. Hard-hitting guitar riffs and vocals, you really can't ask for more here.

Favorite Song: THE FIRST TEST

Bob Vylan - Humble As The Sun

An interesting blend of rock and political hip-hop, with a ton of catchy choruses. An interesting listen if you're an experimental rap fan.

Favorite Song: Dream Big

TOP 200 ALBUMS BY USER SCORE CRAWL (no soundtracks or non-English albums) #16 of 155

This is one of the first times in a while I straight up didn't like a "critically acclaimed" album on first listen. I felt mostly confused by what I had listened to, but with each subsequent relisten to this, it kept growing on me.

The themes and topics discussed are all put down in such a matter-of-fact way, painting a vivid picture of the inner city in the '60s. I couldn't imagine ... read more

Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk

Bop alert. This shit boppin. I like the futuristic production mixed with the luscious instrumental choices. The transitions between the songs are creative and the music sounds like it belongs in Cyberpunk. Super catchy choruses and incredible vocal performances. Short but meaningful interludes that add to the vibe and aesthetic really well. Creates an interesting atmosphere, and a really enjoyable and captivating listen from front to back.

Rich The Kid - Life's A Gamble

Man this was bad. Mostly generic trap beats, over some generic rapping. I didn't have high hopes for this project to begin with but I was still let down. The Kanye features on this fell super flat, there is just nothing interesting here. Better off listening to anything else.

Favorite Song: Carnival was a better song than anything here.

Jacob Collier - Djesse (Vol. 4)
37

This album tries to be really ambitious and emotional but it kinda just falls flat on its face. While a lot of time was spent on flexing the abilities of his production and vocals, it doesn't actually amount to any great songs. Just wait 10 years for Jacob to actually have some compelling and interesting things to write about, but until then we'll have to settle with incredibly overproduced and soulless music trying to be deep.

Favorite song: ...none?

4batz - u made me a st4r
42

The 23 minute runtime feels much much longer than it actually is. I like the style he's going for but I don't think he's hit it yet. Some of these tracks really have nothing going on in them, but track 10 actually has some interesting production? I'd like to see him try more of that

Also don't let Kanye rap on your next project, he's too far gone.

Favorite Song: act viii: i hate to be alone

J. Cole - Might Delete Later
57

Probably the weakest project Cole has ever put out. Just feels like him trying to flex his lyrical prowess without anything else interesting going on. Mostly just feels rushed and unfinished, with the title literally being a representation of what was to come. This was embarrassing and not thought out well at all.

Favorite Song: Trae The Truth in Ibiza

Kid Cudi - INSANO
54

This tracklist is pretty weak. The trap sound does not work as well as it should, and the features do not carry. A more decent album might be seen from half the tracks getting cut but there's not much you can do to save this.

Favorite Song: BLUE SKY

Lyrical Lemonade - All Is Yellow
55

This tape had so much potential. The amount of effort leading into having this many artists on a project is impressive and tough to pull off, and this shows exactly why it's hard to pull off.

While having a stacked feature list of smaller and bigger artists, the ambitious pairings don't work out. Either from the lack of chemistry between the artists on a track, or the weak production. There is not a lot of redeemable aspects about this project.

Favorite Song: Fly Away

Future - WE STILL DON'T TRUST YOU
65

Decent start but this thing is too too long. Drags along a 90 minute run time, theres a lot on here that just didn't have to be included. A lot of the best songs are in the second disc part of the project. I don't mind the r&b additions on this one but 25 tracks were not needed. Very bloated, but still has some good tracks and ideas.

Favorite Song: Show of Hands

Travis Scott - DAYS BEFORE RODEO [Reissue]
78

An album I've yet to visit from Travis until its rerelease, it's fun seeing him at this earlier stage in his career. A less refined sound, but still showcasing some stellar tracks for him. Worth the listen if you are a Travis fan or not.

Favorite Song: Drugs You Should Try It

jaydes - Count Up Dracula
15

Oh my god, the mixing, the only two that sound like they were mixed were the last two songs?? This was an entertaining 14 minutes at least but not in a good way.

Favorite Song: repent (lmao)

21 Savage - american dream
69

21 coming out with some of his best songs yet, but it just comes out okay. It's alright, but his rapping style is starting to get a bit stale. He has some interesting production choices on here but some just don't play out right.

Favorite Song: dark days

Benny the Butcher - Everybody Can't Go
67

Dude why did they have to mess up the Griselda song :( that really should've been the best off of the album. Anyway, it's a decent addition to Benny's discography. It just kinda drops off towards the end, could've ended at the Armani Ceaser song. The production coming from The Alchemist and Hit-Boy is pretty cool though.
