Pinned Review

Björk - Vespertine
100

I usually start my reviews with a single sentence that sums up the album but what I’m about to write about is not something that can be accurately put into words, let alone summed up.

I first listened to this album when I was 15. I was only just starting to dip my toes into some surface level experimental music. It was only correct at that point to check out Björk, because what kind of music nerd hasn’t listened to a Björk album? So I listened to Vulnicura, and although I ... read more

JPEGMAFIA - EXPERIMENTAL RAP

Jpegmafia has never really been known for being easy listening, but this album is probably most abrasive yet.

The rollout for this album was, and still is, insane. Jpegmafia, Devon Hendryx, Buttermilk Jesus, the left-wing Hades himself, is a real asshole online when he’s about to drop a new album. He starts unnecessary beefs and he cannot take criticism. For this album, it seems his strategy was to diss Earl Sweatshirt, double down on his convictions of working with Kanye while dodging ... read more

Slayyyter - WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA
100

Well, shit.

Slayyyter has been one of my favourite artists of all time for a few years now. I remember listening to Starfucker in 2023 and having my mind blown by how absolutely filled to the brim with punchy, commanding rhythms and the incredible balance between modern pop cliches and 2000s-era nostalgia. And the more I dived into it, it only got better and better the more I ripped into the ironic lyrics full of hyper-consumerism, glamour, and Hollywood-to-the-max bourgeois aesthetic, and ... read more

Yung Lean - Warlord (Deluxe)
95

There’s 6 songs here and 5 of them are some of Lean’s best songs. And it’s pretty rare that a deluxe is better than the original, so goddamn let’s talk about this masterpiece.

The original Warlord is one of my favourite albums of all time but as soon as I got properly into the deluxe version of this album, it solved almost every issue I have with the original Warlord. I find the original is a little spotty, but in my opinion, this is up until the final song, a goddamn ... read more

Taylor Swift - The Life of a Showgirl
45

I truly fear that Taylor is in a downward spiral.

Taylor Swift is the biggest popstar in the world. She is famous enough that I think it’s inevitable she’ll go down in history. She’s a billionaire. And she’s been in the limelight for almost two decades, which would take its toll on anyone. This lady was only 16 when her debut album dropped, and 19 when her sophomore album Fearless catapulted her into the mainstream forever.

Luckily for Taylor though, she’s come ... read more

YABUJIN - BAROQUE
100

I think the best music out there is the sort of music that is its own unique experience to listen to. It’s something that I strive for in my own music too. And this little EP here absolutely ticks that box. This year I have been absolutely addicted to the 7 minute lightshow that is Baroque by Yabujin. It’s been a long time since I’ve stumbled upon something so ethereal and immersive, and yet so catchy and instantaneous.

The title track that kicks off this EP is its own ... read more
