cute, small, playful.
just all around a good time, the production is pretty hollow sounding but not to the detriment of the album i dont think. it adds a clarity that i enjoy.
theres quite a few forgettable songs on here though, that dont really seem to do much.
this album is short and fast, with barely a side and a half of material, but every single second is so delicately produced and wonderfully sung.
the first few times i heard the lyrics, especially Vising Hours, i cried. albums dont usually do that for me.
perfectly mixed, beautiful sound.
songs about people, love, nature, change.
songwriting that never gets old and seamlessly pulls you into its world
i went to this show! even more breathtaking in a concert hall, but this album was recorded very professionally and still sounds great on streaming.
seriously one of the most intensely dark and powerful records i have ever listened to. rothko’s first album using his voice, i think? his vocals are equal parts pathetic, wailing and off-key; and expressive, perfectly timed and raw (all of these perfectly add to the sound of the album!) the bass instrumentals are very unique, bass chords sound really new and beautiful, but it still has a really rhythmic feeling and can fill out the entire sound of the record with just one instrument.

feel like this album is where Teen Suicide really comes into their own, their first project, Bad Vibes Forever really didnt have anything to say but i love the amount of contrast on this album, especially with the 2 "halves" of the album.
the first half is loud, screaming in pain and it really contrasts nicely with the quieter second half. it feels like calming down after a breakdown, but still feeling depressed.
i think the best part of this album is how *well* both sounds are pulled ... read more
i found this record through the Icarus EP by Cryalot (Sarah Bonito), and while I found that record pretty un-memorable, I fucking LOVE this record. its pretty leaned towards the back half , with the driving modular (I assume) beats and THICK, disrupted drum patterns and just absolutely tense and jittered loops.
can we also talk about this artwork??? I would get this shit PRINTED on an entire wall in my house
by the end, it feels like something new has been synthesised from the decaying depths ... read more
unlike other albums that Steven Wilson has produced, To The Bone feels half-baked and safe, lacking much identity.
wasn’t all that experimental aside from a few tracks, and rarely challenged or interested me. it feels devoid of the grungy atmosphere of other albums such as Insurgentes which i wouldn’t mind if it, brought anything new to the table.
however the album is well produced, sounds quite nice and has some pretty good vocal performances from Ninet Tayeb and Steven Wilson.
Not a bad record by any stretch of the imagination. Good atmosphere, i still can’t really get over Thom Yorke’s voice being whiny and annoying, but the electronic influences make Radiohead’s otherwise pretty drab rock a bit more interesting and introduce a unique vibe.
Some songs feel a little bit too short, especially the atmospheric/ambient ones, i would love to see them swell into something.
Very unique sound, super messy and lively, extremely acoustic and jangly.
Vocals are good and charged with emotion. I love the lyrical content, despite not picking up on *everything*. lines like “She was born with roses in her eyes,” and the allusions to Anne Frank are very powerful.
sounds like something i would dissect in an english essay, full of metaphor, interchangeable characters, and beautiful imagery.
Pacing is super different and i love the energy that gets transferred ... read more
opens into a deep, think white fog that envelops you like a cocoon of felt, with Phil’s airy vocals lulling you into a soft, and cloudy world. As the record continues, it turns into a deep, black, dark fog, reminiscent of the Microphones record, Mount Eerie.
Genevieve’s dissonant and otherworldly vocals lather Over Dark Water’s soundscape, creating a deep atmosphere that engulfs you. Clear Moon is another of those tracks. The album really pulled me in during the last 2 tracks, ... read more
This is a great EP. It FUCKS, and I love hearing this kind of energy from Phil Elverum. The tracks seriously go so hard and the riffs are just perfect.
such an interesting sonic palette before me that I cant help but eat that shit up. I don't really know how to describe it apart from it just GOING HARD.
i particularly love Phil's vocals and Lyrics on the track "Domesticated Dog." The primal screaming of Phil shouting "THE LEVVEE WILL NOT HOLD THE WAATER BACK" is such a ... read more
i am worried that i will never be able to articulate what makes this album, in my opinion, not only the best piece of music that Phil Elverum has ever written, not only the perfect look back on his previous work and life, summing up everything that he has achieved artistically in the last 25 years or so of this recording project, but also the best piece of music ever created, by anyone. i am not using hyperbole, by the way, hyperbole is for cowards.
really masterfully done.
childish vocals really pull you in, and his songwriting abilities shine, even in such a messy album.
the sonic landscape also really shines on this album. it sounds quite raw and fuzzy, while still able to sound very full and warm when it wants to. Obviously this is quite early in Elverum’s music career, and even though it’s pacing is pretty hard to grasp, i think that still adds to the charm of the record and makes it much more interesting and fun. very early on in Phil's works and kind of represents a messy in-between from his earlier tapes, which were primarily recording-focused into trying something a bit more conceptual and song-writing focused.
it’s quite messy, and while not a bad record I think it doesn’t hit near the ambitious highs of the recording in Tests and the song writing ability in We Stayed in the Water. Quite un-memorable in my opinion. Very homogenous and fatiguing sound in my opinion, at least Tests had ... read more
deeply rich and emotionally powerful track-list. despite being ~30 minutes, which is on the shorter side, She manages to bring the listener on a deeply personal and heart-wrenching journey from the opener, No Face (my favorite) to the long, cathartic Worth It, all the way to the cheery and comforting ending tracks Oom Sha La La and Drinking Song.
its instrumentation is often very reserved and very often purely includes Haley's expressive and honest vocals and a clean electric guitar.

buttery, warm and fuzzy
the soft snares and lo-fi guitars create a super enveloping soundscape andeven when they delve into more noisy songs like the title track, they keep the same melancholy tone and it’s stopped from seeming overly harsh.
vocals, while still good, aren’t anything particular to write home about, but i think the production speaks for itself the most part. i would love this album equally if it had no vocals at all.
beautifully captured and produced album, with incredibly written changes and an emotional core that still shines despite the number of times ive listened.
i think working with jack antonoff has done wonders to clairo's creativity and allowed her music to shine much more than it did on Immunity.
my only criticism would be that this is a pretty front-loaded album. a lot of my favourite tracks are all placed on the first half. I find that the second half is very washy and lacks drums a lot of the ... read more
