From the release of the song Space Oddity in 1969, through to a generational run of albums every year in the 1970’s, David Bowie’s golden era would finally draw to a close in 1980 – but not without one more album. Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) was Bowie’s first album of the 80’s, however it feels like his last album of the 70’s. Scary Monsters feels like an amalgamation of everything Bowie did in the 70’s - such as experimental art rock and catchy ... read more
Samia - Bloodless
Bloodless is the second album from Samia that I have listened too - and a big improvement over her previous in my opnion. I remember liking elements of the previous album Honey, enjoying the singles and sounds but being a bit let down with the overall album. Bloodless feels a big more focused - having a bit of a darker edge, and greater mix of melancholy and big moments, but without sacrificing nice catchy melodies. Overview:
Every Dawn's a Mountain is the 3rd full length album by Belgian-Egyptian artist Tamino. Having not listened to him since his debut album many years ago - this album served as a reintroduction to him as an artist. Right away the songs Babylon and Amsterdam stood out to me - especially this introspective look at things. I felt there was rich history in his lyrics speaking on maturing, family and struggle. Powerful vocals lead the heartfelt opening track My Heroine, before moving ... read more
Review
The release of Good Kid, m.A.a.D. City pushed Kendrick straight into super stardom. The album would be wildly successful, with multiple hit songs, a world tour, a deluxe, and numerous high-level features to follow. Even today, that album is not only considered one of the best of the decade, but one of the best of all time. It seems like an early ... read more
Rosalia - LUX
Overview:
Lux by Rosalia is a very incredible, dense, and very thought out musical project. Singing across 14 different languages, and composoing in numerous genres and styles, Rosalia pushes the boundries of what Pop music can be - creating here something far ahead of it's time. Opening with the soft piano ballad Sexo, Vioelncia y Llantas, the album moves through lush string arrangments, Spanish influenced beats, with the centerpiece Berghain being an overly dramatic, ... read more
Anna von Hausswolff - ICONOCLASTS
Overview:
Iconoclasts is the first album from Anna Von Hausswolff since 2020, and my second proper venture with her. I was a big fan of All Thoughts Fly, a trauma driven ambient album which nearly led me to Sacro Bosco, the location it's inspired by. Iconoclasts is yet another album dealing with the hardships of what it means to be human, with the word itself referring to someone who challenges tradition. Lyrically the album deals with struggles of being ... read more
