One of, if not my fav from Unwound. Their most consistent for sure. They stick to a sound and execute it almost flawlessly.
The second leg is notably weaker. An amazing album with amazing themes form Vince regardless.
Required multiple listens, might require even more. Disc 2 is stronger than disc 3 imo.
I would seriously consider this being a perfect piece of music if not for Josie's Past. Everything else here is so creatively interpreted - this version of Twin Peaks is harsher, noisier, and, dare I say, even darker than the original.
Magical, intense, consistent and memorable. "Out" is such a beautiful and great outro, underrated.
Did they just do an ambient passage on 1983... (A Merman I Should Turn to Be) ??? IN 1968 ???
Tbh I'm not even going to give it a score. I'm just proud I sat through this whole thing. It's cool, chill, dark. A milestone ambient record.
One of those albums that reward you with new experiences each listen. Disc 1 is bold and weird in the best ways possible. The start of the 2nd, Calypso Frelimo, does keep up the intensity and wild experimentation, but the disc does get pretty boring and redundant by the end, though.
There is nothing to be said that hasn't been said before. This is simply perfection when it comes to music and art in general.
10/10
How they manage to blend all the genres makes it weird and interesting, including funky and punky, but it is unbeleavably catchy, with single songs having multiple incredible hooks. Also, the lyrics. They add so much, and somehow don't get overshadowed by the amazing production. One of the greatest musical showouts in history.
