ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF REVIEWING

I'm very worn out at the moment, so I'll just cut to the chase—you read the title, this is a very special review. My longest by an extreme margin, and it's probably something I won't ever top.

This is actually a re-review, though. I've been meaning to redo this for so long because my old review for that album, while not bad, didn't quite give this record what it deserves, in my opinion.

There's probably like a million ... read more

Natural Snow Buildings Deep Dive, Pt. 29: Monsters / Depths

29 parts in and we arrive at NSB's first and only single, Monsters / Depths. I don't typically like having my reviews for music releases consist of just small individual reviews for each of the tracks of the release I'm reviewing, but considering this is just a single with two short songs, that's what I'll be doing here. I'll also talk a bit near the end about how and why I view these songs as part of ... read more

Natural Snow Buildings Deep Dive, Pt. 28: Beyond the Veil

I've attempted to write this review at least 4 different times by now, so I think I'm going to just change up my approach and hope for the best. I'll keep it mostly simple, straightforward, and just talk about the album and not branch too far outside of that. All I'll say is, a lot has happened in my life in between this review and my last one. I'll spare you the details for now, probably talk more about them in ... read more

Natural Snow Buildings Deep Dive, Pt. 27: Chants of Niflheim

Next up on the list we have Chants of Niflheim - NSB's second album from 2011, and the second entry of this ocean-themed trend they appear to be engaged in (Waves of the Random Sea, Chants of Niflheim, maybe Beyond the Veil, and probably ending with the Monster/Depths single. I like to think it really started with A Burial at Sea off of Shadow Kingdom though). Anyway, this album is really really pretty. Maybe a little underrated ... read more

Natural Snow Buildings Deep Dive, Pt. 26: Waves of the Random Sea Reissue

Okay so I'm reviewing this reissue because it has a new song on it, "Split Realm", which does mean this review is gonna be exclusive to just that song and not the rest of the album since I already reviewed the original album in my last review. ALRIGHT, let's do it.

Yeah it's really good, but that goes without saying for NSB. Frankly there isn't much to talk about here mainly because this ... read more

Natural Snow Buildings Deep Dive, Pt. 25: Waves of the Random Sea

Another breathtaking album from my favorite duo added to the collection. Holyyy shit. Musically and perhaps conceptually, I really feel like this album picks up right where we left off in Shadow Kingdom, with that closing track "A Burial at Sea" obviously paralleling the clear 'oceanic' themes seen throughout this record, as well as the next one: Chants of Niflheim (and maybe Beyond the Veil too?). Of course ... read more
