I was super intrigued to hear what Benny was cooking, but once again, I came out disappointed. There was a point where Benny was easily the strongest member of Griselda and seemed like he couldn't miss. However, his recent run of projects have really lacked the polish that his older projects had. The production selection has certainly declined, and it pains me to say this, but I think Benny has declined as a rapper as well. Benny's biggest strength, in my opinion, was his delivery and ... read more
Son of a Gun definitely doesn't lack bangers, but I think its downfalls are mainly from the lack of diversity in the sound of these tracks. I know Key Glock isn't exactly known for changing his style all too much, but I feel like a lot of his other projects have a much more diverse and creative batch of beats that keep it interesting. The producers on here are the typical suspects for a Key Glock release, but I think this is one of his weaker-produced albums. There are a lot of ... read more
This is a pretty run-of-the-mill EP for Westside Gunn standards, but I will always happily accept new Gunn music. HEELS HAVE EYES is a really short 10-minute EP that just has some solid Gunn tracks. GORO was the standout to me, with a really neat sounding Harry Fraud beat. I kind of wish some of the tracks (especially EINSTEIN KITCHEN) were fleshed out a little more, but I still liked every track on here for the most part. I honestly got some old-school vibes from this project, so I'm ... read more
Coming off of "A Great Chaos" I was honestly expecting some great things from Ken Carson on his new album. Even though I didn't love his previous album, there were some really impressive tracks on there that stuck with me. However, while I think A Great Chaos was a step in the right direction, I think More Chaos took two steps back. I am really disappointed with the production on here, and if I'm being honest it's my biggest gripe with this album. I mean you kind of ... read more
The master and his protégé combine their forces together to make an absolute banger of a collab tape. That's the simplest way I can describe this mixtape. Dum and Dummer is just loads of fun man. Young Dolph and Key Glock have a really apparent natural chemistry with one another, with their choice of flows, vocal tones and style. There are quite a few solo tracks on here, but none of them really feel out of place because both of these guys are really good at similar things. ... read more
I wouldn't consider myself a diehard Saba fan, but if you know me you know that I absolutely adore CARE FOR ME, and it's an album that is very dear to me. I became pretty intrigued about this project when I heard some of the singles for it. There is this almost indescribable spark that appears every time Saba and No ID collaborate. No ID has a really good knack for making these old-school, jazzy and lush instrumentals that really transport you back into an older era of hip-hop. I ... read more
It's been about a week now, and I've taken some time to digest this absolute mammoth of an album. With that being said, I think I'm finally ready to share my thoughts. The last time we saw Playboi Carti release an album was about 5 years ago, where he released Whole Lotta Red, which is one of the most important albums of the 2020's. Whether you like that album or not, it's objectively inspired and birthed some of the most popular underground artists that we hear today. ... read more
I don't think Glockoma can hold a torch to its sequel, but it's definitely far from a bad project. Glockoma is a HUGE step up from Glock Bond, which was a pretty brutal listen for me to be honest. Glockoma isn't one of Key Glock's best projects, but it has a lot of elements that are reminiscent of his best stuff. This project has some really creative production at moments, and a bunch fun beats. The thing that stood out to me the most was Key Glock switching up things a ... read more
Yeah... I'm not really feeling this one unfortunately. This is quite a considerable step down from his previous project. A lot of these songs have the exact same feeling and vibe. There really isn't much differentiation between the tracks, and at a point it got very exhausting listening to this project. This is probably my least favorite produced Key Glock project to be honest. He usually always has some creative production on his projects, but this one is severely lacking in that ... read more
Glock Season isn't going to blow you away or anything, but it's a fun little mixtape from Memphis's finest, Key Glock. The production is definitely not up to standard compared to his newer stuff, but the beats on here are decent for the most part. Even though this is considered to be older Key Glock, he still has a very similar sound and style than he does now. He still has that really emphatic delivery that he's known for, and he definitely showcases it on here as well. ... read more
Took me a minute to get used to Veeze, but by the end of this project I came out feeling pretty good about this album. It's nothing revolutionary or anything, but Ganger is still a really fun album, and a nice introduction to Veeze. I don't think the production is anything too crazy, but there are definitely a handful of really good beats on here. Veeze comes through with a pretty chilled out and kind of raspy delivery on most of the tracks. However, Veeze is surprisingly more ... read more
I think it's pretty fair to say that this is Lucki's weakest body of work. Similar to FLAWLESS LIKE ME, this project is just way too bloated. I honestly don't even have much to say about this album, because there really isn't much I got from it. Lucki sounds half-asleep on 75% of this project. People will say, "Well Lucki pretty much sounds asleep on most of his music!", and to that I say listen to this project because bro was taking a SLUMBER on most of these ... read more
SMD isn't a generational Lucki project or anything, but I found it to be quite enjoyable. On Lucki's last LP, he decided it was a good idea to put 24 tracks onto a single project, which turned out to be not so good of an idea! However, Lucki returns to that shorter format on here, and I think it works much better. This project has many similarities to FLAWLESS LIKE ME, but I think SMD does that sound much better. I actually really enjoyed the production on here, I think it's very ... read more
Up to this point my glorious savior, king, and mogul Lucki hasn't missed ONCE, but unfortunately that streak has ended. I don't think this album is outright bad, but it's as mid as you could possibly get. I'm super used to Lucki albums being relatively short in length (about 30ish minutes or so), so when I saw that this bad boy was 54 minutes long I got a little nervous. I think the album comes out pretty strong, and you get some bangers like KAPITOL DENIM, which is an ... read more
Little collab tape between Lucki and F1LTHY? Sign me up. I haven't heard much from F1THY outside of the Whole Lotta Red stuff, so I had no idea what to expect. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I heard this project. I honestly feel like I'm hearing F1THY in a whole new light, and his production sounds super creative, dynamic and interesting. This is honestly a pretty unique sounding project in Lucki's catalogue because of the dynamic between him and F1THY. There just ... read more
Almost There is another Lucki project that is surprisingly considered to be an EP, despite being long enough to be considered a full mixtape or album. In my mind, this is the project that kicked off the modern era of Lucki, where his music leans very heavily into trap, and much less into that surreal, almost-hypnotizing sound that his songs had before. I was a little worried when I started this project, because the first half of this project was pretty damn inconsistent. However, the second ... read more
Days B4 III might only be an EP, but it's easily long enough to be considered a mixtape or album. I think this project is a great way to cap off this era of Lucki's music. It's got a very similar aesthetic to projects like Freewave 3 and Watch My Back, but I don't think it's as good as those two. However, this is still a very high caliber Lucki project and is so much more than just an EP. This project is ridiculously consistent, with very few misses. It also has some ... read more
Paris Texas nation, WE ARE FEASTING! A week ago we got a banger EP from Paris Texas and a week later they dropped another one! These EPs seem to be leading up to a project, but we'll have to see. They might combine these two EPs into a full project, or they might even drop another EP, or drop something completely different, I have no idea. This EP takes quite a different approach than the previous one in my opinion. There is much more of a rock/punk focus as opposed to the more rap/trap ... read more
Oh yeah, now this is some good stuff. DAYS B4 II is a collection of really solid tracks from the man, the myth, the legend, Lucki. This project was kind of the transition between Watch My Back and Freewave 3, where we would see Lucki's style slowly but surely evolve. Although he has a pretty monotone delivery, these beats have a lot of energy, and Lucki coasts on them like it's nothing. Root of All and Switchlanes are absolute BANGERS. Definitely give this one a listen if you're ... read more
Lucki is really starting to click now. I really liked Watch My Back, but I honestly might like Freewave 3 even more. This project is just extremely fun, and immediately infectious. It still contains many of the themes that Watch My Back had, like struggles with relationships and drug use. However, its presentation is much brighter and more lively. Lucki once again uses that wonderful little moody delivery to coast along this wavy ass production. This project's sound is pretty ... read more
