We got another drop from one of the busiest men in hip-hop right now, and it's pretty damn solid! I'll be honest, I wouldn't have checked this out if it wasn't for me hearing Nancy Botwin, which IMMEDIATELY got me interested. I think it's in contention for one of the best songs he's released this year, and that jazzy beat is absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately, I don't think a single song on here comes close to Nancy Botwin, but I still really enjoyed this EP. ... read more
This is CRIMINALLY underrated to the highest possible degree. I think this is potentially Rome's most underrated project in his entire catalogue. In fact, I think this might be one of his best projects. The Artivist is someone that is quite unknown amongst the hip-hop community, especially cause he really hasn't produced much outside of this album. Despite that though, this dude manages to craft one of the most brilliant sounding soundscapes for a Rome Streetz album that I've ... read more
The 3rd edition in the Noise Kandy series is pretty easily the strongest entry so far. It does also help that this was a full-blown project as opposed to an EP like the previous two. I think what really makes this project stand out is the kind of abstract production Rome is rapping on. There's just a bunch of really unique-sounding beats on here, and to see Rome Streetz effectively dissect each one was incredibly interesting to listen to. It's a nice breath of fresh air in his ... read more
Futurewave is a talented producer that I became familiar with after listening to his project with Boldy James. So when I saw that he had collaborated with Rome Streetz, I was eager to check it out. This project was just what I thought it'd be. This project has that dark feeling to it that I really like in gangsta-rap. It provides a good backdrop for the stuff that Rome Streetz raps about. Rome is just as good as he usually is on here, but acquainted with the quality production of ... read more
I wanted to get out of my comfort zone a little bit, and apparently this is one of the hottest albums in the "experimental" underground scene, so I was interested in checking it out. Better yet, I actually enjoyed it quite a bit! Lucy Bedroque is a name that was genuinely foreign to me before I listened to this project. However, I soon came to realize the guy is quite talented, especially through listening to this project. At least from what I can gather, this is quite a unique blend ... read more
Noise Kandy 2 is pretty similar to its predecessor, but I'm not as crazy about this one compared to the first one. The production selection on this one is just kind of weak. Rome Streetz is absolutely pulling all of the weight on this project, and I just wish he could pick up some better production. Up to this point in his career, he hadn't gotten production quality equal to his quality on the mic. This still wasn't bad though, I was just expecting more of an improvement than ... read more
First of all, this cover is hilarious. I wish it were the one on Spotify instead of the kind of boring one that they have. Secondly, this was pretty good! Noise Kandy is a pretty well-known series of projects in Rome Streetz discography. This EP is the beginning of that series. I'm starting to see pretty noticeable improvements from project to project from Rome Streetz. Not only in terms of rapping, but in terms of production selection. Some of the stuff on here sounds like some old ... read more
This is some really good stuff from Rome Streetz. The sound of Narco Lingo is a pretty noticeable upgrade from his previous mixtape, and the production is much more similar to what you would hear him on now. One thing that I think is underrated about Rome Streetz is his hook game, and I think he shows some of that off here. Unfortunately, there's not much to unpack on here as it's only a 3-track EP. Bag of 100s is my favorite song, and it has my favorite beat on the project.
Hilarious how outdated this sounds, even though it dropped in 2016. Damn, now that I think about it 2016 was 9 years ago... that's kind of wild. Anyway, this project is a really good representation of how Rome Streetz sounded early in his career. Unsurprisingly, he had the rapping skills all along. Pretty sure this guy was just rapping out of the womb. Rome Streetz just hadn't connected with the right producers yet. This doesn't have the worst production I've heard, but it ... read more
I liked Ganger, but I don't like the deluxe nearly as much. Get Lucki is the standout for me, being a song that I think rivals some of the best on the original album. However, the other tracks just aren't nearly as good or engaging. Luv the Tour was pretty good though, I'm a fan of that track. However, the rest wasn't doing it for me. Veeze can be hit or miss for me, and I think this deluxe is a good representation of that.
5/5 man. This guy doesn't miss. PRE5L actually holds quite a bit of sentimental value because it was released to pay homage to the late Young Dolph. I think that's pretty damn neat. You can even see the dolphin chain on the cover, which is a pretty obvious reference to Dolph as well. Even better is the fact that it's pretty damn good. Die Trying is simply one of Key Glock's best songs he's released with that gorgeous and unbelievably smooth beat. Spike Lee and Jigsaw ... read more
The deluxe for Yellow Tape 2 sounds like a lot of the same stuff we heard on the original tape. And guess what? It's still slapping. There's some really good stuff in here. Grammys, I Be, Painkillers and GMFB are all really damn good tracks. However, the best track is easily Proud which is a very heartfelt track where he laments the loss of Young Dolph and gets pretty introspective. While I think there are some great tracks on here, I think the overall quality of the original tape is ... read more
I was a little suprised to see this one rated this low because this is once again another damn solid Key Glock project. If you read my Yellow Tape review, you'd know that I think it's one of his best projects. I think Yellow Tape 2 is totally a worthy sequel to that project. This album really comes out strong with its first 5 tracks, and doesn't let up. This project's biggest drawback is some of its bloat, but it's still got so many bangers. Cut off some of the random ... read more
I really like the first Dum and Dummer, but this one might be just as good. Key Glock and fellow collaborator Young Dolph (RIP) once again come through with a tape full of absolute bangers. Compared to the previous tape they did together, I think the production on here is very similar from track to track. I think the first Dum and Dummer had much more varied production and some pretty damn creative trap beats. However, I won't hold that against this project because the production on here ... read more
Yellow Tape was a pretty important album for Key Glock because it was launched as his official debut album, despite having released lots of projects prior. This one is quite a standout in his discography. It's got a lot of his most notable and important songs in his entire catalogue. "Mr. Glock" is arguably one of his best songs that he's ever made, with an intense cascading beat that packs an incredible amount of energy. The first three tracks are one of his strongest ... read more
Both Curren$y and Harry Fraud are hip-hop figures that I am pretty familiar with, but I've never been super crazy about either of them. Not to say that they are bad or anything, but everything I've heard from the two hasn't moved me all that much. However, this is an album I heard good things about, and I'm here to say that the good things are warranted (mostly). This is a chill, laid-back kind of album that is quite adjacent to an album like Larry June's "Life is ... read more
I was intrigued to listen to this when it came out, but I never got around to it. However, I saw it lurking in my Spotify library and thought I'd give it a spin. This isn't really a "Griselda" album, it's more or less a compilation project with appearances from a couple of Griselda members, affiliates, and other rappers who operate in a similar space. This project is also exclusively produced by ILL Tone Beats, who is someone I was pretty unfamiliar with coming into ... read more
Boldy has been dropping a lot lately, and I honestly have had zero interest in listening to most of it. However, when he drops a tape with a producer like Real Bad Man, you've got my attention. This is their third project together, with their previous two also being quite quality projects. Killing Nothing in particular is one of his most slept on projects in my opinion. As expected, Conversational Pieces sounds quite a bit different from their two previous projects. Real Bad Man is just ... read more
Really didn't know what to expect coming into this, and yeah... this is one of the EPs of all time. JPEGMAFIA and Flume are both really talented producers, and I kind of was expecting more from this duo. Track 1 is just kind of an awkward start, as it's not really even a song, just a recording of what appears to be a studio session. The rest of the tracks on here are actual songs, but they leave a lot to be desired. There just really isn't anything hooking me from a production or ... read more
After multiple delays and a lot of anticipation, I can safely say this album lived up to the hype. There's really no one else doing it like Key Glock man. How many trap artists do you see doing 18-track long projects with no features? Not many, I'll tell you that. Glockaveli is what you would expect from a Key Glock project, as it's lots of fun and filled with head-bopping bangers. There are tons of bouncy and vibrant beats on here that give this project tons of energy. As ... read more
