I love Christian music when it's done well. Sadly, it is very rarely done well.

Creative? Yes
Ahead of its time? Perhaps
Memorable? Not Really. While I admire the experimentation and creativity on this album, it doesn't hit as much as I'd hoped it would before listening.

This is an excellently written, performed, and produced pop album that I thoroughly enjoyed. I just don’t see it as genre-defining. This is by every metric a great album but just not one I see as overly standing out amongst other good pop albums.

I read in an article that Gen Z hasn't "rediscovered" R.E.M. yet, as they have done with other 90s grunge and alternative legends. While I doubt the legitimacy of that claim, if it is true, Gen Z is really missing out on some good music.

This album feels soft and toothless for a rock record, especially for one released in the 2008, when Nickelback, Finger Eleven, Daughtry, and Linkin Park all charted. They could have done better.

Grunge really isn't the best genre fit for Sonic Youth. They are, first and foremost, a noise rock band, and, although they try to bring some noise rock elements into this "grunge" album, the two genres don't jell as well as you would want them to, resulting in some songs that are very disappointing. Then again, songs like Sugar Kane and Purr are gems. Overall, it's a mixed bag.

A HUGE improvement from Blurryface.
I love the concept of the album, and the execution is excellent as well. The lyrics hold up, the tone is usually pretty stable throughout, and the focus on mental health struggles is highlighted in a way that showcases the very best of the artists and their ability to tell a narrative. Excellent job.
