The Residents - Meet the Residents

i feel like i could listen to this in a recital hall back in college that could only find the Monday at 9pm slot which means it's time to get REALLY weird, but listening to it or not also watching the performance does absolutely nothing to me.

there's a really cool John Cage piece (or series of pieces i think) where he takes a couple of interview clips and puts them onto multiple different tapes but only adjusts each one by milliseconds, and then after about 14 minutes it turns into this ... read more

it's charming, don't get me wrong, but i'm not sure that necessarily means it's amazing.

idk if i'm gonna have kids one day, but i imagine my daughter making this type of music.

welp, if i'm gonna listen to Nick Cave, i guess i gotta start somewhere.

i *gulp* must've just started at a weird spot. right? like i'm sure there's an album that's gonna b-be great! *sweats profusely* y-yeah! it's gonna happen.

idk one of the homies i follow on here has this as their AOTY so i guess i gotta listen to it...and i'm glad i did, this is probably in my top 3 of emo albums i've heard this year.

i'm surprised they were able to master it well enough that the distorted power chords and the noodley math rock guitar tones are as clean as they are, most people are really fkn bad at that. but not POOL KIDS! they are CLEAN and KEEP THE POOL SAFE. also also ALSO this frontwoman needs a raise.

i can't wait to bump ... read more

i don't fucking understand music. maybe i've got something wrong with listening to so much shit that my subjective and objective brain are at war with each other. trying to decide is something is awesome or if i personally hate it.

but then i get to Here She Comes and i'm floating and nothing else matters.

great album!

drone, as a genre, is probably the most hit or miss genre in the entirety of modern music. personally, 90% of these albums aren't interesting. there is a multitude of things that can go poorly. the tracks can be too long, or the sounds can appear too thin, or the ideas presented don't have enough panache. it's also pretty wishy washy. what might work well for one can work poorly for another.

enter this masterpiece. it may not be a perfect marriage of elements for everybody, but it is for ... read more

i don't exactly remember how i came across inside the creatures back in 2020, it was kinda at the beginning of the pandemic so things are truly a blur for a good month, month and a half, but i remember the album having a bunch of potential. i said in my RYM review that i would be "following on Spotify only to see if future releases get a bit more professional. this could take off. but this album isn’t the way it’s gonna happen." WELL, since then i no longer use Spotify and ... read more

truly blessed to have artists of the internet age that really sound like they make music that feels like the internet. like we're in a simulation, some corny Codename Kids Next Door shit that really gets the shit enticed and feels good and stuff. this is very fun and i'm glad i can listen to it through my ear holes.

that being said it did NOT need to be an hour.

the year is 2015, i'm pacing around the social lounge of my freshman year dorm, trying to ignore the first real academic stress of my life. my neighbor, whom was also getting into the music world like i was, barges in. he's looking for me. absolutely feral. he points at me, and says "HEY CUTIE". i'm not surprised by his usual behavior. what DOES surprise me is the song "Hey QT" by QT playing from the headphones that he threw onto my head. it's this gushy, cute, ... read more

"major props to you for really delving into the how and why and not sacrificing your integrity. i also, like many, respectfully disagree with this take, but it does bring up wonderful opportunities for discussion. i don’t believe that wearing influences on your sleeve or appealing to a certain crowd means the core musical experience is bad. this is something the mainstream has done far longer than Quadeca has. i can, however, understand why that would be frustrating, and almost exploitative. is that where this comes from?"
