For a guy I have never heard of until a couple months ago when I saw he had 40 MILLION monthly listeners, I thought that there would be some appeal.
How is this popular? I've heard this stuff before, so so many times, what makes this one standout? His voice is incredible grating through all those effects too, it's clearly overproduced and overall incredibly tedious get through.
I'm just left not knowing who this guy is at all and what makes him have so much traction, maybe ... read more
Man's Best Friend in many ways feels like a Short n' Sweet mega deluxe. It's another pop album, same material, same production, same hooks, same songs. Her lyrics are starting to become really repetitive too, but you know, there's always those 3 songs that bang and the radio will adore for the foreseeable future, hopefully it's Tears that will get the most replay value as to be fair that's a great song that actually goes somewhere interesting. Samurai man...................slowly becoming one of my favourite Hip-Hop projects of the decade, and these remixes are helping it's case by a substantial amount. So good.
A step up in all terms of production compared to his last project, a decent last 3 tracks too that definitely standout, which is what I've been wanting from deathtoricky. Rapping still lacklustre and uninspired with repetitive beats, but overall maybe there is some potential in deathtoricky, he just needs to map out some more authenticity.
Favourite songs : polo and spenitwenigetit.
Least favourite : week.
Rocket is a mixed bag in terms of tracks I think were worthy of being released and others that just don't even fit this scrappy mixtape form. There's a few catchy and interesting tracks here but overall nothing standout.
Since following Dominic Fike in 2019, his artistic trajectory hasn't been the most exciting.
Favourite songs : Great Pretender and Sandman.
Least favourite : All Hands on Deck.
A Matter of Time is a lush, divine and oddly whimsical experience, just let down by some repetitive lyrical content. Her rich vocals match the traditional vibe very smoothly though, and I definitely finished this album in a more positive headspace. Nice.
Favourite songs : Lover Girl, Mr. Eclectic and Cuckoo Ballet (Interlude).
Least favourite : Tough Luck.
Private music offers some cool vocal melodies and heavy instrumentation, but the repetitiveness and overall delivery is just too grating and blown out for my liking.
Favourite songs : my mind is a mountain and infinite source.
Least favourite : cut hands.
With the sudden ubiquity of Irish underground rappers, and deathtoricky being the frontrunner, he's still yet to find himself sonically.
