Tyler, The Creator - IGOR
96

IGOR is such an incredible experience, and is the perfect display of Tyler's talent. From the retro style of carefully crafted production, to the unique jazzy R&B vibes, instrumentally, this album has so much to offer. Not only this, but the song writing and lyrical delivery is impeccable and at times, is overwhelmingly emotional.

The narrative established throughout the album also helps make the experience even better, and is the perfect accompaniment to a heartbreak or an instance ... read more

Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
100

Where do I even begin with this masterpiece? It is just so beautifully raw, unfiltered and emotional, mainly due to the shameless amateur, yet charming, voice of Jeff Mangum, paired with his incredible songwriting skills. It feels like such a human album and I think this is part of why i love it so much and can connect with it on such a deep level.

When it comes down to it, the songs aren't very complex, with bare-bones chord progressions and simple melodies, but this is just how it needs ... read more

Ween managed to create an album that while straying away from the lo-fi sound of their first 3 albums, manages to retain the humour and most importantly, all round quality of their music. There is some masterful songwriting here and a plethora of catchy riffs and melodies to keep you bewildered by the immense talent of Dean and Gene.

Aphex Twin - ...I Care Because You Do
82

Richard delivers off-kilter industrial mayhem and it is unsurprisingly addictive. There is so much to be enjoyed here, from the laidback and euphoric moments to the intense techno tracks, more akin to his earlier work. It may be rough around the edges, but aphex is such a genius that this feels intentional.

Daft Punk - Human After All
64

This is an undoubtable blemish in the boys' discography. It's rushed, repetitive to the point of misery and often a grating listen. I will give them that some tracks are catchy and varied enough to make this album somewhat substantial but other than that, I'd skip this one.

Daft Punk - Discovery
85

Daft Punk really hit the jackpot with their sophomore project. The sampling on display is just simply masterful, and each and every track is crafted in such a way that makes you feel amazed. In addition to this, the production is way ahead of its time and the songwriting on certain tracks is admirable. An absolute game changer in electronic music.

Daft Punk - Homework
79

Homework is such an unbelievably charming album. It may be a little rough around the edges, but I still believe this album is an undeniable credit to Daft Punk. The sampling, the basslines and the drum programming are all excellent. I needn't say anymore about this album - just enjoy it and dance along.

Moby - Play
79

Moby's creative use of gospel vocal samples in his newfound downtempo style makes for a truly bewildering album. The best moments on this album are those shrouded with beautiful piano melodies and strings, which make you feel carefree and reassured.

The Avalanches - Since I Left You
96

Such a complex album leaves me perplexed at where to even begin describing it.

Firstly, it is just - put plain and simple - impressive that The Avalanches made such an impactful and distinctive album using exclusively the music of other people. Gathered from the crew's extensive record collection, the samples chosen to construct the various tracks on this album are effortlessly beautiful and make for an exceptional listening experience throughout.

Burial - Untrue
97

This album is simply like no other. Before burial rose to prominence in the UK music scene, his sound was simply unheard of. His cohesive blend of disjointed 2-step rhythms, chopped up R&B vocals and breathtaking pads and basses make for an endlessly thought-provoking album, perfect for late night walks in an urban wasteland. Overall, it is a pioneering landmark of an album, which conceived a whole new scene in electronic music, and deserves the love it still receives today.

Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children
100

This album perfectly encapsulates the feeling of childhood nostalgia, as well as sounding endlessly futuristic and optimistic. The project is riddled with samples from old children's television; combine this with the brothers' rather uncanny ability to make melodies and chord sequences that strike a certain area of your heart, and you have the perfect album to sit and reminisce to, all while admiring the compositional value and truly impressive production of the album.

One of my all ... read more

Nightmares on Wax - Smokers Delight
80

Smoker's Delight is an album that requires little analysis. It is a simply breathtaking collection of downtempo, not trying to be too ambitious but instead aiming to bring the listener joy through lush pads, slow beats and some classy instrumentation. I've never smoked personally but I'd imagine this album is what it says on the tin.

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85–92
97

There is something so comforting about this album that no other Aphex album delivers. It's likely because of the more accessible tinge to it, due to the warm ambient atmospheres and danceable drums. Whilst a lot more dated and maybe even less adventurous than his later works, this one still stands out amongst the rest of his discography.

Fatboy Slim - You've Come a Long Way, Baby
80

This album is the perfect demonstration of Norman Cook's simply astonishing ability to create something new out of something old. The tracks themselves are funky, irresistible and just crafted excellently to make the listener feel like a million dollars.

Massive Attack - Mezzanine
94

Massive attack managed to create a record that resonated with me like no other; the rich, carefully considered and quite frankly impressive sound design leaves me in awe after every listen. Not only is the production outstanding, the songwriting is impeccable; what more could you want from a project?

Tame Impala - Currents
90

This is one of my favourite pop albums ever. The unique blend of live instrumentation and dreamy 80s synths is what makes this album such an incredible experience from front to back. Not only that, but Kevin Parker's song writing is out of this world, and the production is immaculate. Just... such an opus of an album, that gives off a completely unique feeling and is effortlessly distinct from any other album.
