More of the same from John Moreland. And the 'same' is great. A great alt-folk album, liked it just as much as Big Bad Luv. Not really any single standout tracks. It's more of an album for listening to the whole way through on a Sunday morning.
Definitely a fun way to spend 25 minutes. It's a real departure from other Green Day eras. Relies heavily on 60s inspired drum beats, guitar riffs and vocal melodies. In some places they really work, in others, not so much. I liked it, for the most part. 'Meet Me on the Roof' and 'I was a teenage teenager' were highlights.
I loved a lot of the instrumentation on this album. Mesmerising synths in places. Generally a very interesting record. Some of the vocals and lyrics didn't ring my bell. Particularly enjoyed the last three tracks, from 'Have We Met' to 'foolssong'
