By far and away my favorite album ever made. I am so glad that it is appreciated to the same extent by the broader population of music listeners in the same way I do. Everything about the project is just so undeniably and inexorably perfect. The political commentary, concept, production, and lyricism are all perfectly executed.
To start off, it is worth discussing the album name and cover. Originally, Kendrick Lamar stated that he had actually wanted to name the project,To Pimp A Caterpillar. ... read more
Adrianne Lenker’s Songs is an embodiment of bittersweet melancholy. Her voice is so relaxing and sweet but also holds an indescribable sadness in the lyricism and vocalizations. Conceived in the midst of Covid from an isolated cabin in Massachusetts, following the sudden breakup with her boyfriend, Lenker had attempted to break the cycle of recording, album released and tour. With the success of the original Minecraft soundtrack, C418 was again recruited to make a sequel. While Volume Alpha was dedicated to Europe, Volume Beta laid its groundwork in Asian and American music. This becomes especially apparent on tracks like Aria Math in which the main instrument is a hand pan. Along with ... read more
These are unironically two of the best cloud rap songs I have ever heard. I understand now why the 2 song ep has such a high rating because these are arguably two of Hi-C's best songs. Wut u wunna do is so hazy and sleepy with an incredible flow but then Lean Stains comes on and then juxtaposes it with an 808 heavy, trap beat. Both songs are super good and have insane replay-ability
Blue Lines is one of if not the most influential albums of the 90s. Being recognized as the first Trip-Hop album and the founder of the genre, English electronic dance group, Massive Attack blended Hip-Hop production with elements of dub, soul and reggae to make an abstract and psychedelic sound. Later acts like Portishead with Dummy and even Massive Attack with their 3rd album Mezzanine would expand on the sound, but Blue Lines is a rawer and unpolished version of some of the greatest works ... read more
