I’m on a metalcore binge rn and I found this album in a Reddit thread about Counterparts. For a debut album this is great. Of the first four songs I only really liked Siren Song but once you get to Carve Yourself Into My Lungs you’re in for a seriously good run of songs. Wasn’t a huge fan of Laughing Stock but everything else is great. I really liked how they used spoken sections. Grows on me with every listen. Just fantastic. The riffs are so so so so so good. The pacing is great, never a dull moment and never felt bored. Most of this album is so desperate and reckless that the moments of pure beauty really stick with you. Vocals are incredible as well and full of emotion. Really cool album. One of my first forays into metalcore. I’m a sucker for contrast and this album has it in spades. I love how the melodic sections work with the grindy aggressive sections. It’s hard to balance and effectively execute both but these guys make it sound easy. The vocals are insane. Howard Jones has some pipes. What makes this album are the riffs. They are incredibly addicting and energizing. They’re all so unique but work very well together. The pacing is also ... read more
