Bloom - Maybe In Another Life

I’m on a metalcore binge rn and I found this album in a Reddit thread about Counterparts. For a debut album this is great. Of the first four songs I only really liked Siren Song but once you get to Carve Yourself Into My Lungs you’re in for a seriously good run of songs. Wasn’t a huge fan of Laughing Stock but everything else is great. I really liked how they used spoken sections. I think it added a nice layer of intimacy and emotion that can sometimes get lost in the ... read more

Grows on me with every listen. Just fantastic. The riffs are so so so so so good. The pacing is great, never a dull moment and never felt bored. Most of this album is so desperate and reckless that the moments of pure beauty really stick with you. Vocals are incredible as well and full of emotion. My first introduction to Counterparts was Heaven Let Them Die, which I loved, and this is all that I loved about that album but with +10 to everything. I’m getting addicted to metalcore and ... read more

Elliott Smith - Elliott Smith

I want to like this album a lot more than I do. I think it is fantastic. Beautifully written, wonderfully performed. Elliott Smith is able to elicit feelings and emotions in such a way that very few song writers are capable of doing or even replicating. His voice is so soft and tender and his guitar playing is stunning. Some of the songs on this album are easily among the best folk songs I’ve heard (that being said I’m not super familiar with the genre).

With that being said, ... read more

Bleed the goat and drain the carcass. Kill the martyr and laugh. Wash your mouth with bile and spit out a tooth. Brutality is beauty.

Really cool album. One of my first forays into metalcore. I’m a sucker for contrast and this album has it in spades. I love how the melodic sections work with the grindy aggressive sections. It’s hard to balance and effectively execute both but these guys make it sound easy. The vocals are insane. Howard Jones has some pipes. What makes this album are the riffs. They are incredibly addicting and energizing. They’re all so unique but work very well together. The pacing is also ... read more

Lynyrd Skynyrd - (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd)

Quintessential southern rock. Everyone knows Free Bird, and while it is great, it takes away the spotlight from some of Skynyrd’s best songs. Tuesday’s Gone is the best song on the album and probably Skynyrd’s best song in general. I love Gimme Three Steps. It’s funny and bluesy and a great time. Simple Man is another legendary Skynyrd song and one of southern rocks best anthems. The only song I didn’t love was Mississippi Kid. It’s not a bad song by any ... read more

Excellent prog-stoner album. Really really catchy riffs. I listened to Try to Disappear, Kerosene, and Chlorine & Wine on repeat for weeks the first time I heard this album. I really like the deep vocals paired with the almost cinematic instrumentation. It’s fuzzy, sweeping, psychedelic, and heavy. Very unique sound overall and my favorite Baroness album out of the ones I’ve heard.

Favorites: Kerosene, Chlorine & Wine, If I Have to Wake Up

Electric Wizard - Dopethrone

It’s like sitting in a field while so high that you’re not even sure your head is attached to your body meanwhile a pit has opened up in the ground as demons pour out and the world around you descends into violent chaos. It is such an oppressive and paranoid soundscape that it makes everything else stop and stand still. Nothing exists outside of the droning guitars and wailing vocals. The bass is muddy beyond belief. Everything is angry and tired and beaten down. Nothing is good in ... read more

Future - HNDRXX

This is hard album to rate because I can’t really say there’s a bad song on it but a good amount of the songs feel very formulaic and uninteresting. That being said, the highs are really high. Some of Futures best and most underrated songs are on here. My Collection, Use Me, Turn on Me, and Sorry are all incredible and some of my favorite Future tracks ever. There is a feeling of hopeless melancholy covered by diamonds and blunts that reminds me a lot of SAVE ME. Future is stuck ... read more

Is this the best metal album of all time? I would say so. Everything about this album is on another level. The story, the riffs, the vocals, the build up and release of tension, Brent’s solos, it is all mind blowingly good. There is not a short song on the album and not a single song ever drags long and gets boring. Oblivion blew my mind the first time I heard it and still does. That guitar solo is something else. Divinations is a great callback to a more Leviathan oriented sound while ... read more

Acid Bath - When the Kite String Pops

Really good stoner sludge album. The riffs are heavy and addicting and the vocals work well with everything going on around them. I found myself getting bored of some songs and others just didn't do it for me. There are quite a few great songs on here and it is easy to see why this album is so influential. Sick, violent, oppressive, and captivating.
