very much overhated. i can get why people don't totally jibe with it, but it isn't as though the music is bad. nor do i necessarily think of it as their final album either, more-so just bonus content or dlc for the division bell, as this isn't so much a statement as much as it is an ode, and one made of older material at that. and even if we do consider it their final album as opposed to the division bell, i still don't dislike it. sure it's pretty "lame" ... read more
70% whatever, 20% pretty good, 10% amazing. the title track and "such a funny night" are the best ones, yet couldn't be more different in spirit. there are some additional songs from this period that didn't make it onto this record i would also assign crucial to listen to, "i want to live", "quando l'amore diventa poesia", and especially "spring summer winter and fall", with that one legitimately being top 20 songs of the 60's for me.
never been a smiths guy, but god damn i can't get enough of this one. i wish i was gayer...
progressive to a fault. it just never ends, it just keeps going on, and on, and on. i love prog, and i'll defend things like tales from topographic oceans, but this is something i've never totally understood. there are indeed sections here-and-there that are genuinely spectacular, but are either cut short or done to death. i find jethro tull is at their best when writing smaller more digestible songs, especially folk. their rock, on the other hand, and in particular this style, i ... read more
one of the craziest and most playful songs in hololive, as well as one of the most complex ones! you need a healthy dose of autism to understand what makes it great, though.
EASILY one of the most underrated classic prog albums ever, by a major player of the genre at least. every song is stellar, the sound is crunchy/aged (but in a good way) yet so somehow also lush (basically: i really dig the production (for the most part)), i especially love the incorporation of strings in this record (they busted out the orchestra for this one). it's such a pain this one is largely forgotten. it feels more like early genesis than yes at times (honestly almost all the time, ... read more
how does this have so few ratings? "modern times" is easily one of his greatest albums, "carol" being a contender for his best song. just a solid singer-songwriter folk-pop-rock record.
"one more kiss dear" prevents this from being a 100, it just comes out of nowhere and does not fit at all. otherwise, here we have a soundtrack just as good if not better than the movie it is based off of (which itself is masterclass). it is the sound of dystopia, and i want to live there.
had whiplash seeing this listed on AOTY. well, i certainly loved it as a kid, and still i have to admit it's a lot of fun, and even though i'd be lying if i said it was of "cosmic quality", there remains something irresistible about its zaniness. it's technically a compilation, but regardless, it is a perfect distillation of that classic lapfox essence.
the music is absolutely hysterical, so at odds with itself, it feels self-destructive, especially the title track, which i feel is one of his strongest compositions conceptually; it is soul crushing, but ultimately hopeful. with this melodramatic and eclectic approach towards writing, it is able to feel extremely personal, borderline intrusive (and that isn't even considering the lyrics). some people don't care for the electronic aspects of it, but i dig it very much... it is obtuse, ... read more
just about the most head-scratching and bewildering thing about this is the fact that REAL HUMAN BEINGS chose to create this.
one of the more unique things you'll ever hear. all it consists of is nothing more than electronic beeps that repeat every 5 seconds... that's all. by all logic this should just be annoying, but instead it is some really ethereal and otherworldly ambience.
holy fuck dude... yeah, it deserves its reputation. there was something in the room with this, the musicianship is just on another level, the moment i realized this was quickly on in coltrane's and cannonball's sax solos in "so what", which immedietly blew me away. i know my way around jazz at least more than the average person i'd like to believe, mainly because i have been subjected to probably thousands of hours worth of it due to my father always playing it on the ... read more
although i indeed feel this gets too bad a reputation than what it deserves, there is still just absolutely no denying that it is one of, if not the all time most bloated and overproduced piece of media ever, to the point where it is sickening on a spiritual level. from the outside, it is impressive, but i don't entirely mean that in a good way. it comes across as a folly, a hollow shell, decorated like a fake relic in ornate rare material that only the biggest of egos could even dare ... read more
is it overrated? who gives a shit, it's a fantastic fucking album, and if you disagree, quite honestly, you are an idiot.
i won't beat around the bush, i have grown to accept this is probably their best work. i think it comes down to the fact that this, maybe more than any of their other records, manages to balance the band's huge ambitions perfectly, as it comes across as incredibly concise and refined; most of these ideas are large enough to warrant a double album, yet with ... read more
i don't even really know what to say about it other than it is a masterpiece of jazz, and should be an absolute must listen for any music listener. if you don't enjoy it even a little bit, you probably have a very serious and potentially fatal brain disease, there is no other explanation.
meaningless nihilistic juvenile transgressive bullshit for stupid pretentious edgelords. if you "like" this, don't interact with me, i have no respect for you. you are a fucking idiot who probably hates their parents or something. go eat some corn instead.
it's an accurate representation of what walking through a desert must feel like. unfortunately walking through a desert is abrasive, tiring, and admittedly boring. sorry but i just can't get into it, but i do respect it to an extent.
