this is some top notch shoegaze from japan. just a recent discovery, i can't assemble this record to their previous, but i read this one is less hard. the harmony on this record is unbelievable. soft shoegaze elements combined with indie rock and mellow vocals.
Some important things are said on this record. The short length makes it a wealthy snack for quick listening. The instrumentation is a little too experimental for a pop album, which makes it a harder listen. So it's short but requires some brain cells to finish. But as I said, it's like a snack, you're eating a little wisdom while listening.
Every listen brought me joy. What a jangly experience, weird chords, cosy lyrics, fluffy drums. Mac is a great guy, and a fantastic musician. Makes me wanna fall in love and be happy. And that was not easy!
it is nice, sweet pop music, just cozy and cuddly. it basically sounds like the cover looks.
Somethin on here appeals me much more than it should. Hey, at least it's just 'Indie Rock', ain't it? I don't think so, it combines a lot of influences, electronic drums, tender vocals mixed with cawing, harsh sounding ones. It isn't something new, but Spoon made it better than many others right now. Also, it's danceable, or you can lay on the couch and reflect on your life while listening to it. They Want My Soul is eclectic and beautiful, easy to listen, fun ... read more
its definitefely more consistent than 'born to die', it sounds less dramatic, what i didn't hate on BTD, but sometimes it was too much. the lyrics are still very lana-del-rey-ish, but not too exaggerated. still waiting for a song that i cant get out of my head after a few listens. all in all this is a better album, but BTD had more outstanding songs in it, also more fillers though.
searching for answers, its like searching for atlantis; hunting for bad moments on this album is too; de facto i only dislike one track on there, the last 5 tracks are so straight forward, plus the opener makes me go crazy everytime, this beat will haunt me till i die; the lyrics even better than the beats, mostly. hooked while first listen, repeated 20 times the next three days
Sharon shines with extraterrestrial vocals, haunting heights and depressing lows in one breath. sometimes a piano melts you, or the slow percussion manipulates your heartbeat, all in all this is a gem that gets the exhibition it deserves.
it stands out with its tenderness and sweet melodies, voices; still i have mixed emotions, since there aren't many parts i will remember longterm. the synergy of songs works really well, you dont get the idea that hundred waters wasn't effortless or uninspired
Oh my fuck, i never appreciated St. Vincents music. i listened to Strange Mercy and Marry Me, tried to like it, since i love her as a person. it's just the way she is, and i feel this album represents herself best (since its her self-titled, it has to be the intention from her). so basically this album just 'works', i feel like i get the idea. every song ist different from each other, experimental sounds flow througout the whole album, the percussion is pretty strong emphasised ... read more
damn, this sounds amazingly fresh and old-school at the same time. freddie and madlib harmonate pretty well together. i really liked the samples at this one, too.
it took the first half to make me realise how the second half was pushing.
cycling through golden fields; lying in my bed, the wind blows the curtains softly inside; the sun kisses my mind; those are some feelings while listening to 'lost in the dream'. there is a certain vibe packed in this album that instantly brings back nostalgia moments even if you never heard it before. the smooth guitar combined with the poppy drumset enhance the feeling of a warm feeling in your heart - the psychadelic moments mixed with the strong and likewise soft vocals make you ... read more
consistent, just like 'on the water', altough i don't sense too many 'filler-moments' like on their previous album. the vocals bring some new wave attitude to the songs. simple song structures who are builduing up a little each moment.
heart-crushing, soaked up with shoegazey distortion. title-track shutters my brain, i'm drowning in noise. guilty of everything is a real solid shoegaze album, that doesn't fail to lighten me up.
