The best descriptor I can think of for this album: subpar.
The instrumentals on this record are harrowingly beautiful, at times amazingly abrasive, but I can't say the same for the vocals. Jamie's vocals on this album may be some of the worst from him. I love his usual gut wrenching, sorrowful screaming. However, on this album, they seem pretentious and overtly exaggerated. "So, my dad bought this box set for me as a Christmas present back in 2023."
I've loved Xiu Xiu and their work for a while now, and, they have a sound like no other band. Ever since my first listen to one of their albums (A Promise), I was hooked. music has been an integral part of my life ever since I was little. When I was 5 I had my first mp3 player and music has haunted me ever since (in a good way HAHA). 10 years later, I'm 15 years old and in my sophmore year of highschool (10th grade for all the non Americans) and I've immensely expanded my music taste. I've always been a fan for odd music. Bjork was my intro to "experimental" probably around when I was 10. I'd never heard anything like it. I've fallen in love ever since.
