Pixies - Doggerel [2022]

Pixies are self aware of their current artistic limitations; they aren’t trying to change the landscape of music like they did in 1988 and that's fine. Doggerel sounds exactly like you’d imagine a 2022 Pixies album to sound like similar drums and guitars same Black Francis spoken-word delivery similar tempo etc.

The lyricism is the most notable deterioration of new age Pixies compared to their former prowess. So uninspiring it makes a fast pace album feel ... read more

Jockstrap - I Love You Jennifer B

once I heard Georgia from my beloved bc,nr was apart of another band/duo I was excited. I hadn’t heard any of their music before turning this record on and I was really surprised how contrasting the sound was compared to bc,nr. Shows how versatile Georgia is, her songwriting and vocals were great. I hope she performs vocals on the next black country record after Isaac’s departure.

Linkin Park - Meteora

Nu Metal really not my thing but this has some really crafty instrumentals. Nice record.

Spiritualized - Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space
70

This album in whole is drawn out and feels like a chore at points. But that first track is a mega hit

Car Seat Headrest - How To Leave Town
80

Some of CSH’s best stuff on here. Drastically different sound compared to their more popular albums. Takes a more spacey approach which is a commendable change of taste. First two tracks are my favourite.

First half is super strong and any record with a feat like ‘Where is my Mind’ is a classic by default. Love this band and live this debut.

Rina Sawayama - Hold the Girl
50

Not inherently bad by any means just did absolutely nothing for me after two listens.

billy woods - Aethiopes
80

fucking love Billy’s potent delivery on this. He the king of commanding those sinister ass beats

Black Thought & Danger Mouse - Cheat Codes
80

Faultless album here. Incredible rapping, fulfilling Danger Mouse production and cutting features…. POSTHUMOUS DOOM.

Kenneth Blume - LOUIE
50

Yeah it’s a cool collection of beats. Makes for good background music I suppose but not a lot beyond that.

Meechy Darko - Gothic Luxury
40

Although I’ve always enjoyed Meechy when apart of ‘Flatbush Zombies’, his voice and delivery feeling very fresh and unique. On his own it’s too overpowering and all the positives turn to negatives. Feel myself wishing for a another feature after every Meechy verse. Saying that, the features are very solid. Loved the efforts from Gibbs and Thought especially.

Have A Nice Life - Deathconciousness [2008]

I had a fucking unreal experience to this album a full transcendental ascension it was wicked, a little bit pissed up in my bedroom, sound system blasting in an empty house in a LED lit room. Without a doubt one of my most memorable moments I’ve had during my musical discovery.

This is a masterpiece. I have once again been blown away by music. I have had a real keen ear for dark, sinister, atmospheric albums that focus on creating a eerie, ... read more

The Strokes - The New Abnormal

I wish Arcade Fire and Interpol could match this longevity. Reimagined and polished. The qualities of an amazing band.

Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
80

Such an awkward album to rate. I think Dreams and The Chain are two of the greatest songs ever but I find the rest of the album super unengaging bar a few moments. When I revist this again I'm playing 3/4 songs and saving some time.

Belle and Sebastian - If You're Feeling Sinister
90

such a sweet little album, the comforting bittersweet vocals are the epitome of soothing comfort. It’s anxiety reducing. Proper little gem of mine.

50

no way at all appealing to be. Beyoncé has one of the boldest voices in contemporary pop music and her talents are wasted over house beats.

JID - DiCaprio 2
70

Solid, debut is clear idc

JID - The Never Story
70

you know when you revisit a once loved project that has escaped your mind and you get to enjoy it feeling refreshed and nostalgic. Good moments

Turnstile - GLOW ON
80

This album would’ve been beloved by any hardcore rock fans from any era. It’s got this rebellious attitude coated with firm performances all round. Cannot wait to see these guys live

Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires of the City
70

Struggling to find qualities that make this a standout amongst all their contemporaries from that time. It has a nice tempo, semi creative production but nothing here blew my socks off.
