Quadeca - I Didn’t Mean to Haunt You
How did the corny lyrical miracle FIFA rapper man make this? Without even being a fan before this album I feel so lucky to witness this. I don’t believe anyone knew he had this in him. He was completely written off from the get go, it’s something only he properly understands. He has transcended every preconception or limitation people set him and made a triumphant concept album too incredible to fathom. A feat that is so rare and ... read more
How can someone go from selling 148k first week to 22k in less than two years
After the commercial and critical success of MOTM 3 I think we all had high expectations for what Cudi had to give us next. I was not expecting this to flop so hard but it definitely deserved it, absolutely lacklustre.
Not offensively terrible just your standard mediocrity.
I want to like this way more than I do bc of my love and appreciation for Freddie Gibbs but Freddie has got a very expansive catalogue of music much better than this. I’m not drawn back into this like everyone else seems to be though those Raekwon, Push and CIA tracks are very impressive.
You sit on it for years after it being a soundtrack of your youth and realise redeeming qualities are scarce, and you get agitated when you’ve spent some many years defending it and playing it out of fashion and the tragic self admitting honesty that good music only exists in the first two tracks😔🫡
Friendly, concise 30 minutes of indie rock. It’s fine but I felt like I’ve heard this album 30 times before. Falling a bit generic with not a lot sticking out at me for this to separate it from other contemporary outfits.
Spitting Off the Edge of the World, Wolf and Burning are songs that I definitely recommend checking out and adding to a playlist but I’d save yourself from expecting anything else out of this.
As a Björk fan I really expected this to grow on me more than it did. First listen i found the soundscape very intriguing and I was completely engaged / excited by it. Usually with her music my ears develop and warp around it on consecutive listens, I felt absolutely none of this with Fossora and it’s already in the background of my rotation.
Wet Leg - Wet Leg
Wet Leg’s self-titled debut was everything I expected it to be and more. The duo flourish within this imaginative soundscape in which they are the composers of.
Each chorus provides mountains of serotonin, the product of their catchy wit. They touch on all kinds of subject matters with an almost impudent regard singing about all sorts from supermarkets, bubble baths and masturbation.
The only thing this album lacks is a supposed limitation of pacing and thematic ... read more
Billy has had a fucking year in 2022. Did anyone see this coming? Just 5 months after dropping an AOTY contender in ‘Aethiopes’ Mr Woods delivers yet another solid induction into his remarkable discography.
He retains his potent delivery from Aethiopes but relaxes on the throttle of experimentation just a little. ‘Pollo Rico’ is another track to be put on the pedestal with ‘SpongeBob’, ‘Red Dust’ and ‘Remorseless’ as a billy woods ... read more
Been a huge Joey fan for 7-8 years and all his previous work stayed in my rotation for years on end. This came and went in a matter of weeks. On the other hand the STEEZ song was incredibly moving, insightful and perfectly executed.
Every Bladee album leaves me in the same spot. Always some very good songs that I’ll cling to and play every once in a while and the rest some good-average songs that I listen to 2 or 3 times and never touch again. The quality of the overall record resides in how many of those tracks catch me on my first few listens. Crest was a touch better.
Courting - Guitar Music [2022]
Auto-tuned post-punk isn’t something I’ve ever conceived. Yet here I am. Coughing and Sneezing along to this commanding debut from these scouse Roger Federer regens.
Post punk has had such a resurgence in the UK in the past few years, I was getting to the point of boredom and over saturation but if you can provide a creative twist it still remains one of the most versatile genres. Courting used traditional UK indie along with some glitchy electronic ... read more
