This was the most infamous indie album of the mid-2010s for my circle of obnoxious suburban teens and early 20s chucklefucks. I refused on principle to ever listen to it—I was a man of "culture" who listened to MF Doom and loved The White Album, not a lowly horny tween. Imagine my surprise a few years down the line to discover ABIIOR and think "wow, this is bangs." It's even easier, in fact, to imagine my second thought of "I have zero faith that these guys ... read more
It's like nothing I've ever heard. This feels like something that was always meant to exist. What a treat to be alive for something like this.
Shoutout to Big Tugg for putting me on to this gem. Gorgeous and grand, but also incredibly intimate and almost...rustic? It reminds me of early Sufjan, but in the realm of what Quadeca's been doing lately. There's a charm and a homemade feel to this; it feels like he's having so much fun and so much pain. It does so much, and most of it very well—"I REMEMBER WHEN I WOKE UP" is one of the best tracks I've heard this year. I'm incredibly excited to see ... read more
Listen to Sports and tell me you don't wanna get hammered on a Tuesday and watch a community kickball game
I may get a LOT of flak for this, but this is what I wish Black Midi were. Makes me feel like that one vine of the Gucci, Lois, three box logos guy with ski goggles screaming YES. YES.
THIS SHIT WAS MADE FOR ME!!!! Controlled, post-punk full of groovy chaos sung by a sentient gym sock soaked in bourbon???? Thank you viagr aboys <3
I think my problem with this album, and Sabrina's music in general, is that she is VERY good at making bangers, and VERY mediocre when she slows the music down. When she's getting naughty and busting it down? Great, amazing, I'm so girlypop. But I truly cannot seem to care when she's singing about literally anything else. Granted, I'm not much of a fan of pop ballads in general, but someone like Chappel does good work, so it's not impossible. Hopefully she improves ... read more
This was my last year of 8th grade, my freshman year of high school. My hopeless romantic, naive self wrapped into 36 minutes of just pure, saccharine indie pop. And god, do I love it for that. Sure, it's a little one-note, but it's there to fulfill a purpose, and that is to make you feel like a giddy little schoolchild. Underrated is a term used far too liberally, but THIS, this is worthy of that moniker.
All killer, no filler. Fun, playful, layered—perfect. A sonic smorgasborg for your ears, there isn't really anything quite like it. Lightning in a bottle.
Fuck you, this rocks. It's 13-year-old me's joy encapsulated. You ever cried to 360p Vanilla Twilight AMVs on the family computer? This is inner child work.
The lows aren't bad, by any means, just fine, but the highs? My god, the highs. 365 is an experience, and when Sympathy is a knife's chorus drops? You can't get much better than that.
This is one of the rare albums where you can just say that it's perfect and move on. It's so, so much more than that, but I think this, more than any album, stands up to GOAT status—and it tends to end many of those arguments pretty quickly.
It gets all the love for a reason—it's the grooviest new wave album of all time, full stop. The onslaught of those first four tracks truly flabbergasts me. All killer, no filler. Fuck, this is good.
Probably the most consistent De La album. You can pop this on and just let it run through no problem—in a good way, I promise. Long Island Wilding is truly some of the most fun I've ever had listening to a hip-hop song. Just a nice, smooth ride.
One of the most fun albums of all time. If I'm ever having a bad day, this is coming on. The Magic Number comes on, and sadness is gonezo for 3 minutes.
We don't need De La Orgee, tho.
Low End Theory may have been the album that made me realize hip hop was something special, but this was the first hip hop album that was truly, unabashedly, one of my favorite full albums of all time. Equal parts funny, catchy, and genius, there's just nothing to hate here. And that final medley? Fuck, man...
