Okay… so the most controversial alternative band has finally dropped their long awaited 4th album. And I have decided to write my first rant.
But seriously, the hate towards them feels so forced. People need to stop pretending it’s not. I know this because I used to be one of those people. When “Take Me Back To Eden” was released in 2023, I initially wrote it off and thought of Sleep Token as “metal posers” simply because everyone else did. But after enough ... read more
This feels like some of the heavier tracks from their more recent albums. I love the heavier parts, and the breakdown was absolutely amazing. But I just can’t get myself to care for the cleans.
It’s always hard reviewing Sleep Token songs. It’s songs that continuously manage to grow on me. And "Caramel" is no exception.
My opinion always changes on the second listen with this band. Its like I open up, and get a deeper understanding of what the music really is. My biggest problem with this single, was the chorus, but after a bit of time, I don’t mind it anymore. While it’s not Sleep Token’s best chorus, it’s certainly not their worst. I ... read more
Note: This is the script from my video essay about "Fear of a Blank planet" that I did for a school project. That’s why it’s structured completely differently from my other reviews. In fact, it’s much more of an analysis rather than a review. Still, it’s the review I have put the most time in, and I think it turned out too good not to put it out here.
When you think of the word MASTERPIECE, the first things that would come to your mind is probably great ... read more
Looks like we’re getting another record like Take Me Back To Eden. And I don’t mind at all cause I love that record. I’m exited on where they’re taking this album, and they’re starting with a pretty strong single.
Goes hard, pretty decent but nothing special. I feel like that is probably what this album is going to turn out to be. Hope they’re going to prove me wrong though…
This is anticlimactic as hell. It’s just a super boring single that sounds like Bring Me The Horizon. Easily the weakest of all of the singles.
Easily digestible melodic metalcore by the most iconic and most recognisable metalcore band of all time. Killswitch Engage knows what they’re doing, there’s no doubt about that. It doesn’t stand out, and that’s not what they’re trying to do either. All in all this record is a decent old-school melodic metalcore record, which is a fairly enjoyable listen.
FAVOURITES: Forever Aligned
It’s always hard to start writing a review on an album you love. You have to express your love for it with words. That is insanely difficult. Sometimes it’s not even possible. You feel like you have to make the record justice, and that’s sometimes impossible to do with words.
First of all, I have to say that “Shogun” is probably THE best album from one of my absolute favourite bands (I’m still torn between this and Ascendancy…). It’s a ... read more
Black metal is arguably the most important piece of Norwegian metal culture. And Ulver is one of Norways most critically acclaimed bands. Especially in the start, right after they released their debut album in 1994.
«Bergtatt - Et eeventyr i 5 capitler» is probably the best Black Metal album I’ve ever heard. I’ve always had problems getting into black metal, although I am Norwegian myself. There’s just too many factors that have been too inaccessible. For example ... read more
This is what all the OG metalcore bands want to be these days. But no one does it as good as Killswitch. BANGER!
A little late to the party here, considering Halloween was two weeks ago. All I need to say is that this was the track I listened to that whole week. Its so fun! And that’s why I love Ice Nine Kills.
Despite the dumpster-fire this band has become, they continue to make great music. I think these singles are much better than anything of “Shaped by Fire”. It’s sad that this is the last music we’ll see from this exact lineup, there’s clearly so much talent here.
I’m just going to throw a thought out there… Is this one of the most over-hated albums of all time?
That is probably not true. I can see why people hate this album. The lyrics are horrible, Ronnie's singing is questionable, and some songs, like "Good Girls Bad Guys," are so bad they shouldn't exist. But when you listen to this album for what it is, it’s so hilariously funny that it becomes enjoyable.
I guess this record is my greatest guilty pleasure. I ... read more
Post-Hardcore is a genre I am somewhat familiar with. And it was about time I dug deeper. It often goes hand in hand with my favourite genre, metalcore. “Sempiternal,” “There is a Hell,” “OM&M self-titled” and “You Are We” are all some of my favourite albums of all time. These have found amazing success in blending metalcore and Post-Hardcore. Especially my 2022s AOTY: “Rouge Carpet Disaster”. It’s a more clean-cut ... read more
Review #1 of trying to listen to new and lesser known bands:
Band: Nykhtophobia (11k monthly listeners)
Genre: Melodic death metal
Nyktophobia isn’t a band many people are aware of. Me neither. But that is not stopping them in delivering a rock solid melodeath experience. And “To The Stars” is exactly that.
“To The Stars” isn’t necessarily the most special album I’ve heard. But it’s still one of the most fun listens I’ve had all year. This ... read more
New rating: 90 ~~> 80. I loved this album the first few days, but after that I kind of forgot it a bit. That’s why I think it’s hard to keep it at a 90.
Original review:
One of my goals for 2024 was to dig deeper into new music from more unknown bands. And while I haven’t necessarily done that as much as I’ve wanted to. I have found some hidden gems. And this is one of them.
I am familiar with these guys from Instagram. That’s why I caught on to their name on ... read more
As a big fan of Bad Omens and their most recent record, I was pretty excited for new music from them. Sadly the new tracks are simply not good, or at least not for me. And except for “V.A.N” and “Anything > Human” none of the hit for me.
“The Grey (Unzipped)” was okay, but apart from that, none of the remixes hit either.
Bad Omens are really good live, so the live tracks are okay I guess. But I’m not a person that listen to live tracks, so it is ... read more
KNOCKED LOOSE MOTHERFU... Oh sorry, wrong band...
The wait is finally over. Bring Me the Horizon has finally decided to release another record. As a massive Bring Me fan, "POST HUMAN: NeX GEn" was easily my most anticipated record for 2024. And it's interesting, to say the least.
I did not know what to expect from the singles leading up to this. I loved "AmEN!" and "Kool-Aid." "DArkSide" was also very good. While "LosT," "sTraNgeRs" ... read more
