This album is so perfect for me, I love this album for one reason and one reason alone, texture. I'm such a huge fucking texture guy. I want my music to sound UNIQUE!!! I'm pretty sure what I just listened to was a low quality cassette tape?? I could be so wrong about that but no matter how it was recorded it added so much to the album.
The low quality sound of this album not only adds a lot of interesting texture to every single sound, but it also makes it all the more impressive ... read more
This was such a surprising listen. I didn't think much of this one going in, but as soon as it got to M.A.H. I immediately understood this album. That song coming after Rage of Plastics really solidified this album is a unique experience. This album has both groovy and catchy pop/disco bangers and some hard hitting, distorted rock tracks (still with that pop energy for the most part).
I really enjoyed this one, Rage of Plastics, M.A.H., Incidental Boogie, and Pearly Gates WILL be on ... read more
Oh my god we get it you're hot and you're great at singing and you're a poet fuck youuuuu. I will never be this effortlessly cool and interesting in my entire life but at least I'm still alive I guess. Actually like rest in peace I mean it, shit is genuinely tragic but I'm also super jealous and spiteful so I can only be mean.
This album is fucking gorgeous, It's like the poster child for yearning so it really speaks to me in incredible ways and I cannot ... read more
I don't even want to review this one, this album blew the fuck up everyone knows it's good they played on SNL fuck you
An incredibly sweet, romantic, hopeful, blissful, lovely album. Listening to this is almost difficult due to the fate of Linda, but I think the atmosphere and themes of this album transcend just their relationship and give it a life of it's own, free from any sadness that may come from knowing this love ended too early.
Listening to this makes me feel in love even though I've never been in a relationship and I have no feelings for anyone right now, but that's not all this album ... read more
Went on a road trip with my mother who's a huge Taylor Swift fan, finally got around to listening to this, these lyrics are just so egregiously corny and immature and the instrumentals are for the most part incredibly bland and uninspired especially for an album that could've been inspired by y'know, show tunes and musicals. It's called the life of a showgirl and it's just her usual generic, clean sound.
Well this is one of *those* Cities Aviv albums, your Cafe Tom Toms or your Archive & Practice 001s, it's good because it's Cities Aviv and this guy is a great producer, but it's mostly just a bunch of cool atmospheres that either stay too long or are too short, or are kind of just nothing, like l'area, just noise. It's good but it's not essential Cities Aviv or anything lol. I think it starts really strong but for the exception of a couple tracks it falls off a ... read more
I'm a Cities Aviv glazer I'm sorry, I've either liked or loved everything this guy has put out since like 2015 it's insane. He's not necessarily switching things up all the time, he isn't someone to jump around genres (too often), he doesn't re-invent himself with every new album or anything, but it doesn't matter. He's found a sound and aesthetic that works for him, he experiments within that sound from time to time, and he just puts out cool, ... read more
Really fun genre hopping album with some amazing production and ideas, I love the energy on display here even if everything doesn't work for me. The vocals are very beautiful and a lot of these songs are either very dreamy and ethereal or straight up bangers. The only note I want to give is please please please do not rap ever again, truly the lowest points on the album.
EDIT:
This came out at the perfect time in my life and has been a really warm blanket to cover me anytime I think or hear any of the songs. Also a really inspiring album production wise, I've definitely noticed myself accidentally replicating this sound in my own music.
OG Review:
My most anticipated album maybe of all time did not disappoint.
Album of the year is probably locked in here for me.
I wrote a longer review and it was a mess so I'm changing it to this, TLDR of that ... read more
What an insanely cool and interesting voice she has. She was my age when she made this album??!! Holy fuck man.
I'm wildly impressed by this as a debut, she kinda knocked it out of the park on the very first swing. Her first fucking single was Wuthering Heights... I need to make music with someone like this. Music like this makes me wish I could just produce for an insane talent like this, I need to find an incredibly creative and talented singer/songwriter to make music with just for the ... read more
I think this album is better than what a lot of people give it credit for! I was very pleasantly surprised by this thing, so much personality and polish, I love the psychedelic and mysterious vibe of everything here. You've got bangers and you've got slow jams, almost all of it has something interesting going on in the production or melody. Yeah it's not the most groundbreaking albums and it's probably derivative of music I haven't listened to, but I'm not just ... read more
I don't actually have a lot to say about this album other than I think it's a solid and consistent record for the time. It's rough around the edges and the recording quality is not the greatest, but that's the charm of it, it's raw and unpolished which is quite fun. The riffs are good and the energy is in your face and unapologetic. The album is short as hell but with how similar the songs feel it still kinda feels like it goes on for longer than it should, a bit more ... read more
Been listening to quite a bit of music and reviewing absolutely none of it, got too wrapped up in learning guitar, video games, and my job (lowest priority here apparently)
This album starts off so incredibly strong with catchy and memorable songs, the first four songs I think are all incredible, such earworms that I have been repeating in my mind since I heard them. I think the middle point of this album is top tier as well but they're not as immediately stand out as those first songs ... read more
The first disc of this album is a perfect 10/10, no notes, an incredible listen start to finish. The second disc is incredibly good but has a couple songs that I don't think reach the heights of the bar set by all the other songs, specifically, Apple Scruffs, Awaiting On You All, I Dig Love, and Isn't It A Pity (Version 2). That being said I genuinely think all of those songs are very good, this album is fucking amazing, I'm just saying that's part of what's holding ... read more
Dude isn't life great when you seek out incredible music all the time no matter the genre? wow. I never would've given The Beach Boys the time of day a couple years ago, I would've passed it off as nice but not something I'd listen to on my own (something I said quite often). Well now here I am listening to it on my own and loving it.
This album is so heavenly, I feel like I'm listening wrong by not being in a field or on a boat. The vocal harmonies soaked in reverb ... read more
I did not think I was gonna love this album as much as I do but as I finished yet another listen for this review I instantly jumped on discogs and bought a vinyl, this is a truly special album. The tenderness of Labi's voice, guitar playing, and songwriting are enough to carry this album to great heights, but add in all the extra little flourishes in every song and you have a masterpiece in your ears.
Truly one of the most inspiring albums I've ever listened to. Music like this is ... read more
Really well made and incredibly energetic, with some incredible riffs and drumming. That voice though... holy shit this album got knocked down like 10 points because of that fucking voice. Ruins some of my enjoyment of this album, that emo accent is too fucking strong here.
Rolling Out the Red Carpet is to me the most effective song on this album, a short and sweet 2 minutes that builds up with a really nice guitar intro and then drops into a really loud and cool chorus, probably my favorite ... read more
The greatest song of all time is now Ngiculela-Es Una Historia-I Am Singing
What a delightful listen, and oddly fitting for December. This gives off so many warm fireplace feelings. Stevie Wonder has an incredible voice and so many songs in here just feel like a warm blanket.
I wish I had more to say about this album but there reaches a point of popularity and critical praise where anything I say does not matter at all, listen to the fucking album you know it's good.
