The perfect black metal album in my opinion. Putting this on when I'm depressed is like therapy

MWP 2023 Reviews Part II: Seven Kingdoms - Self-Titled

Seven Kingdoms is a band that I could never really get into. I absolutely love the riffs, and their live sound is great, but I've never been a fan of the clean, soaring, reverb-soaked Power Metal vocals that many bands in the genre use. Beherit has released some good material in the past, but the fact that their fans chose this album in particular to put on a pedestal never ceases to confuse me. Every aspect of this album feels unfinished. Near-inaudible guitars and bass, cheesy "Satan" vocals that sound like they came from an 80s arcade cabinet, and all around awful production even by black metal standards. It's a shame, because the instrumentals show that this album could have been great, but the empty production ... read more
