It seems to me that both Adonis and Thelonious Martin truly gave this their best effort, but I find the chemistry really isn’t present in either artists sound. Adonis routinely tries to rap as if the beats were more lively and full, and Martin’s productions come across a little too abstract and experimental for Adonis’ simple yet laid back flow. The final stretch of the project was a genuine step up in quality however, from ‘THE TALE OF OSAKA BAY’ to ‘THE ... read more
To be releasing an album this late into his career, Common maintains the quality of his peak early 2000s run, which is an incredible feat in my opinion. Accompanied by standout 90s producer Pete Rock, Common had the opportunity to rap over a stellar collection of beats. The word play and rhyme scheming is typically great, and Common brings a more upbeat tempo to his flows that compliment these bouncy beats so well. Standout tracks are ‘Dreamin’, ‘This Man’, ‘So ... read more
Futurewave and Daniel Son sound rejuvenated on this project, the dynamic is very fresh when compared to some of their recent efforts as a duo. Leaning more towards synth heavy sounds with subtle jazz samples, Daniel Son’s provided a bunch of the most interesting Futurewave beats I’ve heard as of late. Admittedly it does get a tad stale towards the end, but the series of closing tracks are a nice shake up to see the album out.
Absolutely electric energy from start to finish, ODB showcases his undeniable charm over some of RZA’s simplest yet catchiest beats. Hilarious bars and moments make this a thrilling listen, I can’t recall the last album I listened to that captivated me this much. ODB sounds like a wild animal on here at points, swaying on and off the beat while constantly altering his vocal range. All killer no filler, ODB and RZA made for a perfect pairing and a great introduction to the world of ... read more
Mildly interesting jazz rap, Lojii doesn’t do anything to set himself apart in an ever growing sub-genre that features some of the most talented artists in their lane. The production is particularly boring, usually made of subtle piano keys that compliment the sparse drums. Lyrically, Lojii doesn’t exactly impress either, though it’s competent enough to not detract from any tracks greatly. Standout tracks are ‘under$core’ and ‘sposed2feel’.
