There's none of the epic overreaching that mars so many rap albums of the era; rather, there's just over a dozen tracks here, and they're filled to the brim with rhymes and beats and little else -- no pop-crossover concessions nor any heady experimentation for the sake of experimentation, just good ol'-fashioned hip-hop, albeit with a dark, dark deranged twist.

Tical is an interior record. Across these reclusive tracks, Method Man’s primary concerns are securing refuge and dispatching threats.

The East coast hip hop renaissance continues apace ... supremely laid-back, mooching along at a bass-weighted amble, whether it's framing the monogamous lover's lament of "All I Need" or the 'I Will Survive' hook of "Release Yo Self".

Tical has slowly become one of my favorite albums of all time. It represents everything I look for in a hip-hop record, from the rapping to the instrumentals to the highlights to the replay value. Every track holds its own, and every moment in this LP has something to offer. Tical was one of the first solo albums dropped by a Wu Tang member. I mean, Meth was a common favorite of the group due to his easily recognizable voice, entertaining flows, and unique rapping style, so obviously people wanted to hear more from him. To this day, Method Man is arguably most people’s favorite Wu member.

This album overall is really dope! RZA delivers some dark, bass heavy beats, and nearly all of em bang. Plus they go perfect with someone of Meth's rapping style. In terms ... read more

The only really notable Method Man solo album. Some good highlights but doesn't hold up as much as a full album listen comparatively to some other Wu solo classics

Fav tracks: Bring the pain, Meth vs chef

There are certainly some great songs on here, but overall it’s a scantly-produced album, and much weaker than what the best of the Wu-Tang solo discography has to offer. This is the project that many people claim was disrupted by the notorious RZA basement flood (thus destroying the originally-planned beats), but I’ve also heard conflicting info on that. Either way, it’s a sort of undercooked work that’s mostly carried by Method Man’s iconic voice
