If I were asked to give an album to represent black music: this would be one of them without a doubt. There's so much influence from funk, hip-hop, soul, R&B, gospel, it's - for lack of a better phrase, "black as fuck". From the thick bass lines, to the knocking drums, to D'Angelo's soulful voice: this album is remarkable. The lyrics are nothing to sneeze at either!
