The Spanish singer expands her discography with a record which is accessible to the wide mainstream audience much more than her previous work, while at the same time, it did not lose the uniqueness she has represented within the Spanish-language music scene.

Rosalía, the 28-year-old Spanish singer, released her debut album, Los ángeles, in 2017. She appeared at the Spanish-language music scene as kind of an underground, alternative musician. Her sophomore album, El mal querer ... read more

The Weeknd - Dawn FM
86

Dawn FM makes me happy to be Abel's fan, and I wanna dance to it all night long, receiving all those Michael Jackson, Daft Punk and Depeche Mode flashbacks within a pure joy. The production is exquisite, colourful, deep and the whole concept of the album is more meaningful and darker than it seems on the initial listen. I am really surprised and relieved he was able to make such a great sequel to After Hours. It turned out to be much better than I expected.

Abel Tesfaye. If you told someone 10 ... read more

kick iiii: It's taking such an interesting direction in comparison with the previous three Kicks, however, it does not always sound like I would like it to sound. I probably like the ideas of this album more, than those of the previous, but unfortunately they do not always meet my expectations here.

The previous three Kicks sometimes caught my attentions, sometimes they didn't. KiCk i wasn't necessarily my favourite album, although I love "KLK". This feeling continued with the second ... read more

Pop Smoke - Faith
47

The fact that Pop Smoke couldn't observe the making process of this album is really apparent. Rest in peace. Once, this sounds overproduced, next time it is overproduced, another time it is repetitive, then it is perplexed. This or that, the result does not even sound like Pop Smoke's body of work.

I'm not a particular hip hop fan, although I find myself enjoying some hip hop albums and songs. So, I've never been a fan of Pop Smoke. I've always known he existed and his unfortunate death was ... read more

KicK iii: the third part of Arca's Kick series (surprisingly). And as I rate it chronologically, it is so far my favourite album of this series. It is crazily, deeply produced and greatly balanced, which is something I missed at the previous two Kick albums, which sounded a little bit off to me from time to time. This one doesn't.

I like some songs from the previous Kicks. "KLK" is definitely one of my favourite deconstructed club songs, while "Prada" and "Rakata" ... read more

Self Esteem - Prioritise Pleasure
61

It feels like Rebecca Taylor had a lot of ideas while making this album, but those ideas do not form a pleasant result for me. But it also seems like this might be a pleasant result for others, regarding the acclaim the album gained. Not for me I guess.

Self Esteem is a music project consisting of Rebecca Taylor. The 34-year-old musician has experiences with music since her youth and childhood, however, for a long time she stayed out of the industry. She formed the project just in 2017, four ... read more

Maroon 5 - JORDI
30

JORDI is a collection of backgroud music for shopping centres, which sounds outdated, lacking a concept, idea, originality and impossible to remember. It is a waste of time to listen to it.

Maroon 5. An American band which formed in 1994 and through the years, it grew to prominence with some hits, such as "Moves Like Jagger" featuring Christina Aguilera. That song was a global sucess, to my surprise. I don't know. Maroon 5 is just one of those bands I wouldn't need to go famous. ... read more

MARINA - Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land
83

Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land is unexpectedly great return of the Welsh singer after Love + Fear. As a part of the retro trend, it showcasts a different vision of nostalgia, incorporating sounds of glam rock, new wave and alt-pop, while being conceptual. Definitely my favourite pop album of the year.

Marina Diamandis is a Welsh singer who has a strong cult following. She has never became a mainstream singer, while on the other hand, she has always done music which could be accessible to ... read more

Arlo Parks - Collapsed In Sunbeams
72

Collapsed in Sunbeams is a decent debut album from Arlo Parks. Her beautiful voice and pleasant melodies make this album memorable. Sometimes, it is repetitive, the instrumentation does not meet the expectations or sounds recycled. Even with that, the result is the album which brought this young British singer on the scene. And that's what she deserves.

I noticed Arlo Parks when this album was released. And I listened to it. She is a new face within the industry, a new voice within the ... read more

Low - HEY WHAT
82

HEY WHAT is an extraordinary, unpredictable, confusing, powerful experience. The melodies hold your hand throughout this record. Otherwise, you have no chance to predict what is going to happen, and that is what makes the album exciting. It might not be for everybody, but give it a shot. I believe it's worth it.

Low is an American rock band which has been around for quite some time already. They formed back in 1993 and nowadays, they are a duo of Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker. I am going to be ... read more

ABBA - Voyage
69

This is exactly what I expected from the new album by ABBA, so I am not disappointed. It has some songs from the vault, some nostalgic bops and some slower ballads. Not all of them are great. But if you are going into this album with the intention for nostalgia and you do not expect to hear the magnum opus from the group, it should not disappoint you either.

ABBA is a legendary Swedish pop group. Everybody knows their songs, there's no way you could have escaped an ABBA song in your life. I ... read more

Ed Sheeran - =

Omg stop please...

I don't know why Ed Sheeran is here. I don't know why I need to write this review. He is so mediocre and he has always been. He sold 150 thousand tickets for his double concert two years ago in my country. I am ashamed.

So yeah. I wish I lived in the parallel universe where Ed Sheeran never went famous. But unfortunately I live here and I kinda wanna rate as many albums as possible. And this is one of the albums released in 2021. = (Equals) is the fourth album in Ed's ... read more

Adele - 30
89

There is no room for doubts about Adele. With 30, she showed her position within the music industry is unshakable. She is gonna sell millions no matter what. But the thing that's more important in this case is the fact that this time, those millions LPs sold contain music which is deeply personal, honest, elaborate, sonically exquisite and unique.

I am a pop fan and a Gen-Z kid born in 2003. I grew up listening to Adele's music. And I would grow up listening to it (at least passively) even if ... read more

KICK ii offers a great combination of pop-infused sounds and crossovers with reggaeton in its first half. The second half follows those bops and presents some interesting ideas, but not the amount I would love there to be. In comparison with KiCk i, the second part of the album series leaves me much more impressed.

Arca's last-year album KiCk i had a great single, "KLK", which is something I just need to listen to from time to time, but otherwise, the album often lacked something to ... read more

Silk Sonic - An Evening With Silk Sonic
91

It sounds like my album of the year, and also something I've been waiting for this year. This album has all the vibes I grew to love this year, and it mixes them together so beautifully. This is what happens when two people with perfectly matching styles team up to not only accompany, but also to complement each other.

Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak – two musicians who formed this supergroup called Silk Sonic. Everyone from my generation knows Bruno Mars, with no doubt. Whether you like ... read more

Little Simz - Sometimes I Might Be Introvert
85

The dose of creativity in this one-hour-long experience is quite impressive. Even though sometimes, it feels too long, Sometimes I Might Be Introvert showcasts Little Simz as one of the best female rappers of this time.

To be honest, I didn't know who Little Simz is before I noticed this album here on the Album of the Year. I saw it was highly anticipated, so I decided I would listen to it once it gets released. I did not know what to expect, since I have not gone through her discography (I ... read more

Agnes - Magic Still Exists
77

With a bold taste of colourful disco, the Swedish pop star rocks the dance floor with Magic Still Exists. With some tracks, she reaches the heights of the best albums of the ongoing disco revival, although the lack of deeper inspiration is notable at the rest of them.

Agnes is quite a new name for me. I discovered her absolutely randomly this year, when I was listening to some songs on Spotify and suddenly "24 Hours" started playing. And this song caught my attention immediately. It ... read more

Coldplay - Music of the Spheres
56

The decent moments of the British band's Music of the Spheres are buried under the lethal dose of generic production, songwriting without a solid idea and weak vocals. The sci-fi concept of the album is definitely an interesting idea, but it fails to meet the expectations.

The commercial success of Coldplay is incredible. We all know their hits, such as "Viva La Vida", or their collaboration with The Chainsmokers, "Something Just Like This". And I could name tens of other ... read more

Lana Del Rey - Blue Banisters
81

Lana Del Rey releases the eighth album of her discography, Blue Banisters, the second album this year already. Her ability to create an album made of both songs from the vault and new material, just a few months after the release of a previous album, and make it sound this cohesive and expressive, is worthy of recognition.

I'd say I became a Lana fan with the release of her 2019 album Norman Fucking Rockwell! which is, in my opinion, one of the best albums of the decade. In comparison with ... read more

"You're so right. I decided to dive into their discography just recently, as I always knew just their biggest hits. Their impact is incredible. And I was also like "well they could release something new already" just a few days ago. They already had a long gap between Human After All and Random Access Memories, so I wasn't surprised with their discography stagnating recently. But I didn't expect this omg. "
