Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited
96

After countless listening's to Dylan's catalog prior to the 90's, it's safe to say Highway 61 is my favorite of them all.

The first album where Dylan fully submerges himself into his electric guitar era, I can only imagine how bat shit crazy the boomers were going at the time.

Desolation Row, Highway 61, Tombstone Blues, Queen Jane, it's literally impossible to pick a favorite. This album has crazy replay value and is written so well to bat.

Black Sabbath - Sabotage
88

I know everyone loves Ozzy's vocals on the early Sabbath stuff- but damn, this has to be my favorite entry from them. Ozzy sounds ferocious, the band is playing with an incredible amount of energy, and this album never gets old.

Favorites:

Hole in the sky
Megalomania
Thrill of it all
The Writ

Cage the Elephant - Neon Pill
55

Unfortunately, this could have easily been an EP with just the singles- love Cage, but this album really sticks to the recipe that has worked for them in the past but does nothing to reel me back in like their previous projects.

Honestly, I was expecting more of a evolutionary project in regards to their discography given the length of their hiatus- but this album does nothing to set itself apart from their other records.

Billie Eilish - HIT ME HARD AND SOFT
81

I really REALLY love the production on this album.. Yet I feel like I am missing something big.. Not sure what it is..

I feel like the subject matter just becomes tiring as the album goes on- it starts hot but really, the momentum is killed because it just can't make its mind up of what it wants to be.

But I will say, this is easily the most digestible of her projects, and my favorite thus far.

Cheekface - It's Sorted
73

This was a really cute album.

Dad starts a indie band vibes and I am here for it.

The lyrics are ridiculous and corny, but it plays extremely well into the atmosphere of the sound they are going for here.

I will definitely be checking out their other work!

Saves:

The Fringe
Popular 2
Grad School
Life in A bag
Plastic

Thee Sinseers - Sinseerly Yours
77

A beautiful take on modernized soul music.

This album is incredibly diverse- I was shocked, as when I saw the despritption of the record, I thought surely this would be some generic mush.

To my surprise, the Sinseers come in with a fresh take on a beloved genre, and do so in a very beautiful way. There are Jazzy soul tracks, tracks that lean more into ballads, and also tracks that lean into the rockier sides of things- you really do get it all here.

I LOVE the first half of this record, I do ... read more

The Isley Brothers - 3 + 3
78

I think I'm going soft for these funky albums boys.

This album is another feel good, groovy record that is meaty and straight to the point.

I love how much variety we get here- I can here the blues, I can hear Beatleseque pop as well- and whilst pulling from different influences, the album itself remains cohesive.

Really love the opener here (Did Kendrick sample this?) and I also love Sunshine and Don't let me be lonely tonight.

Marcus King - Mood Swings
75

I by far enjoy King's earlier projects and features, but this is really good music.

Skimming through the top albums of 2024 on this site, it amazes me that I don't see this album anywhere, yet all these weak singer song writer albums get praised.

King's music really does feel like it's in its own lane of blues and country, and there really isn't another project out there that I have heard this year that sounds similar to this.

ERNEST - NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE
65

I have been a big Ernest fan for a few years now, and he's one of the artists who's charm is wearing VERY thin for me..

Would If I could is easily the standout track here.

What is with Big Loud bloating these albums? Wallen, Hardy and Ernest all have great songs in their vault, but they'll drop like a few per album and fill the rest with boring generic music to fill out the rest and see what sticks.. I

Jason Derulo - Nu King
12

Oh my god. This is actually disgusting.

Genre: Pop Boy would have been a more fitting title (Still blows the MGK record out of the water)

Post Malone - AUSTIN
59

It's crazy because Post Malone's highs are SO high, but the lows are in absolute HELL.

Also, the best song of this project is unreleased.. crazy

Listen, this isn't a lack of creativity, Post Malone does a lot of cool stuff on the side as far as covers he posts videos of, or performs live- I just wished that translated to his studio albums.

The guy is talented, and can make great music- you gotta wonder how much the label plays into the generic Tik Tok Boy music we have been getting ... read more

Noah Cyrus - Again
75

A combo that oddly works very well.

Eminem - Revival
55

This album is a crime so heinous that only Taylor Swift could get away with..

This really is the only Eminem album we have ever seen where he doesn't even try to hide the fact that he's phoning it in trying to collect a meal ticket.

We can debate his catalog all day, but even at his worst there is always something WORTHY of the time within the mush- but here? Hell no. There is no payoff, just a bitter old man re-hashing the same stories we've heard from him a million times.

Eminem - The Eminem Show
83

Ugh I want to say this is the most well rounded eminem album.

I will have to see how my other re-listens hold up- but hear me out.

We get a mixture of everything that made Eminem a fun listen. Cringy accents, HUNGRY and driven lyrics and production (Dre) political messages that aren't cringe (Revival) and club bangers.

Every radio song of his after this album ended up being annoying as all hell, and really it's just because those songs are annoying and more generic.

This is a timeless ... read more

Crawlers - The Mess We Seem To Make
63

Upon a first listen, I actually did save a few tracks to the monthly playlist- but there are just some really cringy lyrics that bug me, and the pointless cursing at certain parts- I can't say that I have ever had this gripe about anything ever.. idk what it is here..

BUT I do see some great potential with this band with some better writing, sonically this is pretty good!

Pillow Queens - Name Your Sorrow
63

Mostly generic cookie cutter indie rock. Pretty bored tbh.

Elvis Presley - How Great Thou Art
84

As a huge Elvis fan, I can whole heartedly say that his Gospel music was his best work.

There's a lot of music in his catalog that simply feels out of place, or just has something visibly off about it- his gospel records spew nothing but authenticity and just feel like he's in his correct lane.

Surf Curse - Heaven Surrounds You
79

Iconic Album. Too many bangers.

Tyler Childers - Can I Take My Hounds to Heaven?
78

I love Tyler- but I think this one would be even BETTER if it wasn't his album if that makes sense? Absolutely GROOOOVY

Tyler Childers - Country Squire
76

A Poppier, Funkier take on Tyler and Sturgil's record "Purgatory"

I just really appreciate the vibes on this one- easy to digest for people who aren't as into country.
