NF - FEAR
37

I will always check a new NF record. The man occasionally has his moments where he delivers something worthwhile, although it is rare. But I didn't have high hopes with a feature list consisting of MGK and James Arthur.

And those low expectations were mostly met. Even though his singing surprised me, I didn't really enjoy it. It falls into the same black hole a lot of white male singers end up in. Think of: 'Alex Warren, Calum Scott, Alec Benjamin, you name them.'

BLACKPINK - KILL THIS LOVE
28

This EP suffers a similar fate as the previous one, but the choruses here are sloppy, chaotic, and completely uncatchy making it quite a bit worse overall.

PS: And don't let me start about the remix of 'DDU-DU'.

Dave - PSYCHODRAMA
71

A very impressive debut album from Dave! The way he tells stories through songs is absolutely impeccable, an ture artiste with words. He can deliver clever bars, like on 'Psycho', but also hold your attention for an 11 minute story that keeps you hooked the entire way. At times it almost feels like spoken word, and that style suits him perfectly.

Where some tracks might be held back in my opinion is in the instrumental choices. Personally, I prefer when Dave delivers his vocals over ... read more

Demi Lovato - It's Not That Deep
63

It is indeed not that deep... Demi just wants it fast and hard!

After a little detour into rock music, Demi Lovato is back to making club bangers, but at times a bit ranchier than we might be used to from them.

For the most part, It works very well. Most songs have parts I enjoy, but there are some choices made in the choruses or post-choruses that don't hit for me. For instance when they're spamming a syllable on tracks like: 'Sorry To Myself' or 'Say It'. It ... read more

Hayley Williams - Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party
74

Hayley Williams is a fantastic songwriter who truly knows how to translate her emotions into words. This album sees her exploring many different styles and genres, so much so that even the AOTY crowd seems unsure how to classify it. While most of these stylistic shifts are executed really well, some naturally appeal to me more than others. Still, the lyrical depth throughout this record is incredible, and the production remains consistently strong from start to finish.

JACKBOYS & Travis Scott - JACKBOYS
54

Jackboys is nothing special. It feels like Travis Scott wants to create a platform for other artists to show their talents while he tags along. Sadly, the only song that I would come back to is 'WHAT TO DO?'. Don and Travis are such a great matchup and compliment eachother very well.

The rest is just... mediocre. Nothing terrible, but also nothing memorable.

Amber Mark - Pretty Idea
77

YES YES YES! This album is absolutely amazing! Amber's voice is so sweet on the ears, and the blend of dance, R&B and funk is so intoxicating. It even makes my white hips want to roll.

Even though this album is a bit all over the place stylistically, it's still an enjoyable listen. Just in the the last leg, the quality drops a little. 'The Best of You' is quite a boring ballad and 'Doin' Me' doesn't bring enough changing energy to have such a ... read more

Mac Miller - The Divine Feminine
69

Mac Miller gets sexy and sensual on Divine Feminine. Through every song Mac writes, you can tell what a genuinely great guy he really was. Even on an album where his sexual desires are front and center, it iss still so respectful and layered with emotional moments. Which is something pretty rare in his line of work.

That said I do have some problems with this album. My biggest issue is the trap hi-hats thrown into some of the songs, especially on 'Planet God Damn'. It was so ... read more

Wet Leg - Wet Leg
70

Wet Leg's debut feels so simple, but it's so affectious and fun to listen to.

Taylor Swift - The Life of a Showgirl
38

You know a record is bad when Swifties start coping by saying, “Maybe it’s intentionally a bit bad so the next one feels like a masterpiece.”

Sadly, everyone involved here seemed to underperform. Max Martin didn’t exactly Max Martin this one. There are no catchy synths, no powerful choruses, nothing that sticks. Taylor herself is okay vocally, and there are glimpses of strong lyricism, but most of it feels half-baked or just straight up weird.

Let’s talk about ... read more

Ed Sheeran - Play
36

Why do I still come back to Ed Sheeran albums? Because there can be a certain sweetness to his music, especially when he leans into that folk/singer-songwriter or “wedding song” side of things. After two stronger albums, Ed sadly slides back into his more commercial lane with this record.

There are still a few genuine, heartfelt moments here: 'Old Phone' and 'The Vow' capture that warm sincerity that I have a sweet spot for. Sure, they’re a bit corny, but ... read more

Sabrina Carpenter - Man's Best Friend
54

Let an innocent woman be and choose her own goddamn album cover!

Sadly, I’m not a big fan of this record. Sabrina still brings her raunchy, unfiltered personality, but the songs just don’t land the way they did on Short n’ Sweet. The songs here aren’t as catchy, and a few are just straight-up bad. 'Don’t Worry I’ll Make You Worry' in particular is a slog of a ballad, with such drawn-out phrasing that it’s painful to sit through. Sadly ... read more

PinkPantheress - Fancy That
78

This is definitely my favorite PinkPantheress project so far! I love how she leans into the dance grooves here. In my opinion her voice shines more on instrumentals like these, then with her R&B-leaning material. The production throughout is lush, playful, and full of little details that make the songs sparkle. It’s such a fun and refreshing listen.

Metro Boomin - HEROES & VILLAINS
75

This is a pretty fantastic trap album. With a lineup full of familiar faces, Metro manages to craft a producer album that actually feels coherent. Something that is rarely the case in these types of projects (looking at you DJ Khaled). The production is stellar across the board. Sure, you can tell he cooked a little longer on some tracks than others, but there isn’t a single bad beat here.

Some of the rap performances aren’t my favorite, but the instrumentals often make up for it. ... read more

21 Savage, Offset & Metro Boomin - Without Warning
62

The first half of this record is pretty solid, but sadly it falls off after 'Nightmare'. Offset and Metro deliver consistently across most of the album, but 21 Savage really drags it down for me. His lazy, supposedly nonchalant flow just comes across like he doesn’t even want to be there. Early on it wasn’t too distracting, but on tracks like 'Run Up The Tracks' and 'Still Serving' it becomes flat-out boring. It’s also obvious that Offset is the ... read more

65

Even though the rhyme schemes go absolutely crazy and it's lyrically very dense, this preluxe doesn't grab my attention the same way 'WRK' did. It is definitely still fun though.

BigXthaPlug - I Hope You're Happy
33

Homie went from chipmunk-soul Pop Smoke to Big Dax!

These songs are just so poorly constructed. Every track follows the same formula: a mediocre country song that suddenly gets trap drums whenever Big X starts spitting… for EVERY. SINGLE. SONG!

That said, I do appreciate that Big X puts some substance into his lyrics, on this record touching on heartbreak rather than sticking to the usual “bitches, hoes, and money” formula. The only track that is passable to me was the one ... read more

Maroon 5 - Love Is Like
44

A Maroon 5 record that’s a step up from their last two, at least offering a few decent instrumental moments. But overall, it still doesn’t give us anything great. The biggest issue remains: everything sounds overly saturated and sugar-coated, which ends up washing out Adam Levine’s voice and blending the whole thing into generic radio pop slop.

You can definitely skip this one, maybe give 'Burn Burn Burn' a listen if you're curious, it's kinda ... read more

ReneƩ Rapp - BITE ME
82

RENEÉ IS MOTHER! The energy and confidence Reneé radiates is absolutely unreal. I first discovered her about two years ago through the single 'Snow Angel', and my life genuinely changed. I’d found an absurdly talented vocalist with endless attitude and charisma.

On this record, she doubles down on that confidence, but makes sure to never get arrogant. While also letting moments of vulnerability shine through, just like on 'Snow Angel'. The way she ... read more

Amaarae - BLACK STAR
63

I came to this record off the back of the amazing single 'S.M.O', but sadly, the full album didn’t quite deliver what I was hoping for.

I do love how bold, raunchy, and explicit this project is. It gives the record a lot of personality. But sonically, that’s where the disconnect happens for me. I’m just not the biggest fan of the vocal style Amaarae leans into on this record. I know plenty of people love it, and PinkPantheress has basically built a career on that ... read more

"@hARded2000 I can understand that, but for me when you're involving sad songs it should either be a cohesive record or you work towards it on the end of a record. Now you throw in a ballad followed by something with way more of a summer vibe. It just doesn't feel right."

That's fine, yes there were other issues with that movie that weren't a great look for Sia, but this wasn't the issue lol."
