This was so fun, the most I’ve enjoyed a hip-hop album in a while. The songs didn’t feel repetitive and the production was great!

Another wonderful album from Ethel Cain. I was not expecting this album to have so many drone sections included, but I think it was much more enjoyable in this album. Compared to “Perverts”, which maintained a haunting atmosphere throughout the project, this album takes more of a slowcore influence, which I think fits very well with the themes of the album along with Hayden’s voice. The main criticism I had of “I Didn’t Mean to Haunt You” was that I didn’t enjoy the vocals. But here, Quadeca’s vocals have improved dramatically, even if the rap parts that I don’t particularly love are still included. The main standout here is the production and instrumentation used, with this album reminding me a lot of a Phil Elverum project without sounding like a complete rip-off. Wow. One of the best new emo albums I’ve heard. I love the Cap’n Jazz influence and including some quieter songs mixed in with the predominant hardcore sound. I also really liked how a female vocalist lead in a few of the songs.
