– Carries on in the same groove as their self titled, but feels distinct from it still
– Many great individual tracks, cohesive sound throughout without being repetitive
– Makes you wanna go outside (possibly a quality of all their music in general)
– Supposedly there's an existentialist theme here which I'm normally down for but the lyrics are not direct enough for my dummy brain to connect with it effortlessly
Original score: 60 (Idk what I was thinking)
Edit:
– Has a mythical / folklore-y vibe about it
– Very distinct cohesive sound, but still great variation between songs, many memorable moments
– Transitions and moves along really well, good listening experience
– More variation in the vocal performance than After Hours had, that's nice
– Some sweet transitions between songs, nice listening experience
– Take My Breath gives me Daft Punk vibes in all the right ways
– The radio station concept works pretty well, some good interludes
– First half kept me well engaged
– Starts to drag a bit around track 8/9, not as engaging after that point
– IMO it could have been 3-4 tracks shorter
– Her singing is very engaging, emotive
– Holds your attention well
– Nice production here and there
– Underlying sense of me not being the target audience, so doesn't connect with me beyond recognising that its a good album
– Establishes a cool setting
– Nice production and mix
– Not a huge fan of his voice
– Would have liked some more variation
– A bit long, feels like a drag at times
Big meh for me unfortunately. Wish I connected more with it but I just didn't
At first listen I thought this sounded super pretentious but now I love it so I guess I became pretentious uhoh
Doesn't quiiiiite hold my interest towards the end, gets a bit monotone, but overall I love the sound of this album
Really unique sounding, held my interest most of the way through, concept is really intriguing and the cover art is incredible. A neat project overall
Really don't care much for the first 3rd of this, but tracks from Green Blue + Indigo Violet like Sprite, Earth to God and Make It Stop have been stuck in my head for a week now so I have to give it the 8
Hey hold on a second, I'm beginning to think I really like this band
Old rating: 70
Update 17 Feb 2021: 85
Wildly varied but still somehow consistent. Unbelievable how 95% of the songs on a 30 track album can be instantly memorable.
- Instantly memorable
- Varied but cohesive
- Instrumentation sounds great and crisp
In a technical, objective sense this album probably doesn't deserve an 85, but just in the sense of listening enjoyment it deserves it for me. If every album in my library was incredibly varied, catchy, memorable and attention grabbing, they would require too much of me to want to listen to while I'm in a chilled out mood or trying to focus on something. This is a long, guitar-twangy, Mac DeMarco elevator music kind of album, and sometimes that's what I'm all about you know
meh.
I liked folklore for the atmosphere that came with the album cover, and the excitement that came with a surprise isolation folk album from Taylor Swift of all people. Evermore has less of both of those. In general I also just liked the songs on folklore more than the ones on here.
Bright and funky, impressive amount of catchy songs. Can't hate on that can ya
