This album cover is really cool and atmospheric, regardless of what the movie is actually about which I have no idea. Listening to it feels a bit like going on a journey (obviously, it's a soundtrack), a synthy, retro, psychedelic journey.
The joy of individual vulfpeck songs, the job of putting together a cohesive album
Had it's moments in the first half, didn't care much for the rest. 6/10, Positively neutral
Didn't have any strong feelings in either direction here for whatever reason. It was music and I listened to it
Give me an awesome bold cover and some fun-ass groovy music and I'll be happy forever
Absolutely love the instrumentation and production. Though the lyrics and topics are sad the album doesn't sound somber, the way his thoughts are presented comes across as more "casual" and to the point, not dressed up to be overly dramatic or grandiose. Feels very genuine and human. Amazing record.
Another one of these albums that have a ton of buzz around them that just doesn't click with me at all. Unmemorable and just ok.
Pros:
* He's a good singer
* The super stripped back instrumentals and low quality recording is oddly appealing
Cons:
*He's essentially a serial killer
Until now Taylor Swift was synonymous with "mainstream pop music" in my mind, so the fact that she can release an album like this and have it be good and not feel too forced or clichéd is very respectable. A coherent project, liking a lot if the production and instrumentation. Album art is pretty sick, adds a lot in terms of atmosphere and imagery. All in all a very unexpected but exciting and interesting album
The theme of this album is probably what keeps me coming back to it. The synth sounds feel oddly perfect for the theme, and I can just visualise a plant vibing hard and growing and photosynthesising and shit. Great ambiance for plants and people
"The 1975 sound" is alright most of the time, but on this album I enjoyed the instrumental tracks more than the "regular" ones. Not a very concise listening experience in general
Unique from anything else I've heard, interesting in that way, but it's too weird
Original review:
Her voice is good, the lyrics are direct and witty, and the album cover deserves a 10/10 on its own. 8/10
Update 23 nov. 2020:
Her voice is great, actually. And I love her direct and witty writing. And the instrumentation is fantastic. And the cover is fucking awesome and adds such a cool atmosphere to the album. 9/10
Update 19 oct. 2021:
I was wrong the other times it's a 10/10
Got very bored of this, didn't like the vocals very much, kept thinking it sounded like background music for a YouTube vlog
