Folk-Metaphysics has slowly become one of my favorite rap songs ever.
Amine's best work in my opinion and incredibly vulnerable and deep diving into more serious and debatable topics with lots of experimentation throughout the project.
Fun mixtape to listen to and just full of bops. This gon' make you drive 60 in a school zone type music.
Singer-Songwriter type beat. She left me, type music.
Mach-Hommy creates a refreshing sound within the Griselda movement. Abstract rap blends with the dark style Griselda has cemented along with dreamy and soulful loops mixed into the chaos. Mach-Hommy spits relentlessly on almost every track effortlessly creating more atmosphere from track to track.
Chill samples and calming beats along with Milo's signature delivery. A bit too chill at times making the project a bit repetitive.
Westside Gunn with this new project really sticks with the books with very little change in sound and direction. Overall it's not the best most original project Westside Gunn has released but it also isn't bad.
Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers is one of the most revealing and honest albums this year.
Kendrick Lamar again changes his style and lyrical focus. It's an accumulation of theatrical tracks filled with excellent production and truly open lyrics revealing parts of Kendrick's life and opinions as a person. This is an amazing developement in Kendrick's growth not as an artist only but also as a person. It's strong in emotion and experiences in life and creates a project relatable in subject ... read more
Lil Yachty returns with Lil Boat 2 which is a project that contains either complete duds or relatively fun moments.
Lil Boat 2 is nothing new for Lil Yachty's growth as an artist and stays in a safe zone of style. Some songs are truly enjoyable in its fun and wacky sound, but sometimes it doesn't work in Yachty's favor. Some tracks feel empty and uninteresting either with Lil Yachty's boring flow or occasionally apparent lack in effort.
MIKE brings a scattered mixtape full of psychedelic and experimental beats with his monotone rapping for better or for worse.
MIKE's sound changes within this project as he sounds more triumphant and powerful than his other projects. The glitchy production brings an interesting spin to his lofi underground rap style. This new style of production sometimes can leave some songs feeling empty or unfinished on the mixtape, but it maintains attention and direction.
Ants From Up There is a masterfully crafted album that is packed full of emotion and poetic freedom.
Black Country, New Road created a masterpiece and every song has some of the most incredible build ups and developments in songs. It's grand as a whole and flawless in song structure and instrumentation. Creativity is through the roof throughout this entire project and overall it's pure art.
Still Brazy brings back 90's g-funk in an extravagant accumulation of tracks.
YG showcases an interesting narrative while also bringing powerful statements on poverty, discrimination, and racism that is present in America. Production on Still Brazy perfectly captures California g-funk in a modern perspective and creates an incredible album.
Drive-By Lullabies brings a collection of ideas full of personality and stylistic choices.
While being entertaining it lacks a bit of structure and build-up in songs. Dark subject matters and genre blends make this a satisfying listen and it doesn't get boring easily with the songs changing constantly in sound and style. This album embraces the power of simplicity and is a unique take on the sometimes overly sugar rush hyper pop genre, it's not afraid to break boundaries.
