At the beginning of this project I found it very odd. I didn’t expect to enter upon a world of pop-rock. However as the album progressed it got much much better. It introduced more original ideas than just making another generic pop-rock record. So while not great, it’s not bad at all and sits comfortably in the middle for me.
Highlights: sweet smell of success, out of my mind, never look back
One of the best post-black metal records of all time. Not much to say apart from that it’s incredible!
This album feels like floating through the deep ends of space, while a flurry of symphonic and well mastered instruments bombard you on your journey. “Islands” is truly a beautiful album, and definitely a prog masterpiece. While the flutes and other floaty instruments almost ‘tinkle’ away, in the background a wall of woodwind creates chaos and an overbearing feeling. The drums level this out with simple yet masterful playing.
It’s been a while since I’ve listened to an album as great as this one, and when I say that it is great… I mean it. “Epitaph”, second released full length lp by “necrophagist” is a very exciting and energetic listen, with a virtuosic performance on every single instrument.
