Im sorry but Ace of Thorns really drags this project down
It loses me a bit during the second half, but that first half was actually really well done!
It's not an unpleasant experience, but certainly not one I would come back to
Discovered this band in recently added, and if the concept is to release an EP every day ISTG
There's nothing on here that hit as hard as most tracks on TFS, but that's ok. I'm sure this album would be more impactful to Christian listeners, but for me, it's an album with some solid bops, and the occasional dud. Malice's verse killed it though, as always.
Quadeca channeled his inner Sufjan Stevens and created one of the greatest folk albums of all time. The sweeping soundscapes, the emotional lyrics, the intentionality of it all.... It really gets to you.
Druski on an official JB album? what has this world come to
Also I want to say literally 2 days ago I told my mom "we're due for a Justin Bieber album rollout this year" and then Justin shadow drops the same week. crazy timing
Update after listening to the album: What the fuck? what's the point of all those Druski interludes? What does Justin stand to gain by releasing audio of Druski calling him a black guy? what was Justin trying to say there? The music itself is ... read more
Here it is, Clipse's new album. After 15 years, Clipse returns with a bombastic and in-your-face hip hop album, produced entirely by Pharrell. I think this is the best work Clipse has put out, but it is far from a perfect project. The rather uninspiring tracks in the middle of this album I don't see myself revisiting, and the absolute mutilation of "So Be It" is really unfortunate to see. Hopefully some point down the line they fix the mix on the new track, because it sounds ... read more
I miss when Lorde was more energetic with her music. I understand why she isn't on Virgin, but the lower energy, almost whisper singing combined with fairly uninteresting production leads to a lot of songs on this project sounding super samey, leading to a fairly boring listen. The songwriting is really well done though.
The fact that it doesn't take itself seriously makes this project a million times more interesting to listen to than a lot of brutal death metal projects I can't lie
Epilogue is one of the most beautiful jazz anthems ever recorded
I have had one hell of a week, so I haven't been able to do many music reviews. I need to catch up on this week's releases, and I decided to get the most difficult album out of the way first.
Whenever I listen to Swans' music, I approach it less from a musical perspective and more of a compositional and storytelling perspective, and how much the music leaves an impact on me. That worked well for Soundtracks of the Blind, and it still holds up here, even if it's a bit less ... read more
I honest to God think more music should sound like this. I'm not a JT fan, and this albums sound isn't fully unique, but the execution is genuinely amazing. I'm not surprised Timbaland fell off a cliff after this album, because you're not gonna top this. The excellent production combined with Justin's infectious hooks and verses lead to a pop album for the ages and one of the most solid adult contemporary RnB albums of the 21st century.
The Link is Gojira's Sophomore Album, and unfortunately falls victim to the Sophomore Slump. Terra Incognita proved Gojira's potential, and From Mars to Sirius shows what makes Gojira unique, while The Link is stuck in this awkward middle ground, with the band doing basically the same thing they did on their first album with not many new ideas. It lacks the IT factor that every other Gojira Album has.
