I remember talking to my dad a while back about DM’s discography. He said that he had this weird relationship with ultra, but he never elaborated, nor did I ask. After listening to it, I somewhat understand why:
For a group so synonymous with synthpop to embrace a darker sound would be daring to say the least, however for DM it seems like a step in the right direction, especially seeing how they evolved from violator to SoFAD; the darker sound in question being an embrace of industrial ... read more
Every time Mitski announces a new album the most annoying people will flock to tweet "I was getting better until Mitski announced a new album".
Oh the album? Yeah it's pretty good
If you gathered a room of 10 people who say "I love Gorillaz", four of them would be talking about DD and PB; three of them would also mention The now now and Humanz; two would also mention The fall and Song Machine and only one would bring up Cracker island and The mountain.
Maybe this is just a testimony to how great they were in the early days

A horse drained to death by mosquito bite sized nitpicks
I think the main issue with shoegaze can be found in literally every other genre too- if you don't stand out, then you sound like the rest. While listening to this album, take a moment to guess if the song you're listening to just as easily could fit on a record by Ride or early Drop nineteens, or early slowdive.
It's not bad, it just doesn't stand out in any meaningful way
English guy makes same song 10 times and kisses everyone on the mouth
He literally screams "I AM A FUCKING CHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDDDDDD" on the last song omg
An AMAZING achievment!
Some of the most insane production I've heard on an electronic album that somehow never slows down. Above that, it doesn't tire you, just pulls you back in to re-listen to it
Despite the incredibly strong start, the later half fails to leave an impression. Even with the Thom York song
By all accounts- an absolute behemoth of an album. And for 1968?????????????
