Honestly deserves a good score just because of Stranger Things. Might be the bands best song they've ever released.
A tie for my favorite album from Periphery along with P2. Great instrumentals and vocals as always with a newer take on their Progressive/Djenty sound, with more emphasis on the djent side of it.
This album was super game changing when it came out and you can still hear its influence today. A great mix of Djent and prog that resulted in a timeless classic with a consistently great tracklist and a perfect feature selection from the likes of Guthrie Govan, Wes Hauch, and John Petrucci.
One of the best prog albums to come out of the metalcore scene for the entire decade. Fantastic songwriting and production and soaring vocals layered with tons of beautiful ambience. A must listen for any Djent/Prog metalcore fans.
This EP slaps, this and Vile Genesis are the best things Inferi has released so far. Catchy and melodic guitarwork and solos along with fast crushing riffs and great vocals as always. Goes so hard in the gym.
My real introduction and gateway into tech-death. I love this album so much and I still come back to it every now and then. Beautifully written guitar work and structures and never feels tiring or too overwhelming for me.
I'm honestly surprised how many people don't like this album. I really enjoy the blend of electronics and prog/djenty guitar. I really like this album a lot. Maybe I'm biased because I'm a guitar player and have learned a handful of these songs. But this album just hits for me. Great guitarwork, even post Jason Richardson departure, But discovery will still always be there best.
One of my first introductions to Tech-Death and a great introduction it was. Any album with Jason Richardson on guitar will bang. This album bangs. Incredibly tasty and difficult guitar and shitty production that just feels nostalgic.
Infinite Source bangs, but honestly the rest of the album doesn't do a whole lot for me.
This album is fantastic. Every shoegaze fan should have this band and album on their radar. It's a relaxing and enjoyable listen all the way through that makes you feel a whole spectrum of emotions.
To this day one of the best deathcore records ever written. This album is what happens when a great vocalist joins together with great musicians that aren't afraid to try new things and push boundaries. Elements of Thrash, Prog, and metalcore are all over this album. The vocals are ear-piercing and the breakdowns hit hard. The guitarwork is fantastic and song structures are unpredictable. The only gripe I have is a wish the production were a little tighter, but that's just a minor ... read more
I was looking forward to this record based on the singles, but I was honestly pretty bored listening to it. The whole album feels like a 25 minute song with a couple switch-ups and breakdowns. The whole album is in the same key and the final track of the record was the only song to actually kinda peak my interest but even that faded as soon as the eery ambience did. Vocalist is an animal, but the instrumentals were so repetitive I didn't even realize when a song had finished.
ERRA and Invent animate really did pave the way for progressive metalcore in the 2010's, similarly to how Periphery paved the way for Djent at the same time. This album is a classic with great riffs and forward thinking guitar to make any djent bro bust a couple.
This album weirdly feels so nostalgic every time I listen to it. It just kinda feels like home whenever I listen to the whole thing all the way through. Instrumentals are fantastic and technical. The Ambience is beautiful, and the songs slap you in the face. What's not to love
Phinehas does a great job not reinventing the wheel or pushing the scene, but arguably doing basic metalcore the best. Song structures are pretty formulaic and if you go into this album expecting some redefining album you will be disappointed. If you go into this album expecting to be blown away by instrumentals and get hit hard with nostalgic sounding metalcore like I was, you will be pretty happy. Great in the gym and the songs are really fun to play on guitar.
I had really high hopes going into this one after really liking constellations and leveler. Provision had me thinking this album would be better than both. Unfortunately this album did not hit nearly as much as I thought it would. This record felt a lot more lyric heavy which is cool, but you don't really listen to ABR for the lyrical content you know. Still a solid album with high moments, but not as high as previous releases.
ABR once again showing everyone why they are a top tier Metalcore band. I wasn't huge on their most recent release up to this album, so this project felt like a return to form and it was great. Great guitarwork and riffs that get stuck in your head. Unpredictable song structures and super melodic moments keep this album fresh and fun, and make the heavier moments hit even harder.
Easily my favorite record from ABR. The best guitarwork and most impressive song structures I've ever heard from them with unpredictable changes and progressive elements. Everything there is to love about the band is personified in this album. I also never factor this into rating, but I just really love the artwork and it expresses exactly how I feel listening to this beautiful album.
Another classic for anyone trying to either get into metalcore, or learn more about the genre. ABR has been consistent their entire discography and that absolutely describes this album here, Consistent. Banger after banger on this one and a perfect album to play at the gym. The intro to White Washed gets your blood pumping!
One of the most iconic metalcore records and a must listen for anyone to understand the history of the genre. Great vocals and balance between melodies and heaviness, along with some of the sickest guitar solos and riffs. Rest in Peace Oli Herbert, one of the greatest of his era.
