Mind numbingly horrible. What is the appeal of this shit. It's just noise.
Beyond underrated in their discography, this album is on par if not better than Nonagon Infinity. Their most stylistically, conceptually and arguably sonically consistent to date. Not to mention the most creative. There isn't a single second wasted on here and those spoken word sections are just the cherry on top.
This band fell off so fucking fast after The Satanist damn. Also can we talk about how awful the production sounds? Like damn it manages to sound over compressed, muddy, flat, brickwalled and it's clipping everywhere all at the same time. Panihida, contrary to Hospodi, offers a far more traditional Batushka experience in my opinion. It treads very very closely to the band's last effort Litourgiya to where in some areas I get deja vu of the latter album's songs. Nevertheless, it is still very well conceived and greatly more cohesive than their last album. I love Evil Friends and all but it must be said that this album is the end of their more original/experimental-ish era. There's just far more creativity put on display on this album, love the occasional psych vibes, the chamber elements thrown throughout the track list, and the overall distinction between each song. The highlights are absolutely insane and there is very little filler, all around it's just really well crafted and written. Oh, and catchy too!
