fairly disappointed with this album, there are good songs dont get me wrong but this is the most okay album i've listened to in a minute. not too sure if ive ever been keen on his more faster paced stuff and this album has a fair few tracks at that tempo that just miss the mark for me. some of the wind ups and downs too just throw me off quite a bit. love you joji but i dont think im coming back to this album for more than the singles
this perfectly represents pre-commercial joji, echoes of chloe burbank still holding tight on his production style. the lyrics are definitely lackluster though.
this album got me through lockdown. a very bittersweet, woe is me album to put on when you need to wallow. the second half of the album is absolutely beautiful with all the ambient tracks and drones. "its ok" and "the things you promised me" completely take me out of it. they feel super refined which is a bit jarring especially after hearing the first half of the album but the reprise of the guitar from the reaper used in dumpster diving for diamonds is super cool.
the way every song seamlessly bleeds into each other and the musical talent he shows here just inspires me. no misses.
great conceptual album, the features dont feel wasted or there to make the lineup feel good, i can look at a title and replay the whole song in my head. knots does throw me off every single listen but i understand how it's necessary. every single other song is a masterpiece.
doesn't overstay its welcome nor does it get boring. good album to have on in those liminal moments, can't help but smile whenever any of these songs come on.
considering the fact that i never thought i'd ever listen to him after wild in 2016 taking a chance and listening to this album all the way through was a nice surprise. though the pacing is a bit iffy every single song is a hit.
