光の緒 [Hikari no Itoguchi] - [untitled]
37

Not really my thing at all unfortunately which sucks because I really did go in wanting to love it! However the ultimate truth of this is that there's really nothing all that special to it. It's a piano piece that just kinda repeats on and on into oblivion, and some really harsh noise placed on top of it. It's not pretty, it's barely even musical, and to me anyway it just feels like nothing, it feels like it's trying to be deep but the execution just makes it feel pretentious and shallow.

cLOUDDEAD - cLOUDDEAD
86

cLOUDDEAD is a really landmark moment in hip hop's history and, in my opinion, deserves a lot more appreciation and praise. I consider myself to be generally pretty experienced with hip hop music, and I've heard a lot of music from the genre. Even with that being the case though I'd honestly have to agree with the common consensus that there really isn't another piece of music that's comparable to this, and it'll likely remain that way for quite a while. I will say that there are times where it ... read more

City Girl - Celestial Angel
68

Gets old after a bit, but I really like the vibe of this one. The vocals weren't really my thing and I did have a slight problem with the mixing on one track, but overall it's a pretty good time. Makes me want to walk around the streets of Tokyo late at night and just take in the vibe, y'know?

Kanye West - ye
86

'ye' is perhaps Kanye's most interesting release to date. On this album Kanye stripped back his usual sound to a point of almost unrecognizability, making for a record that is both intimate and minimal, personal yet extremely polarizing. Especially putting into context where Kanye was back in 2018, ye just feels like such an interesting oddity in his discography that is so rarely discussed or acknowledged. I do get it though, this is a very short album, some of his weakest bars show up here, ... read more

Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
97

Kanye's grandest moment, a complete musical odyssey showcasing some of Kanye's best instrumentals, features, and songs to date, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy still stands as not only one of the best albums of its year, but one of the best of its decade. On here Kanye reflects on his fame and his reputation in the music business as well as in the mainstream, showing that he still refused to be put in some sort of box. Although almost all of Kanye's reinventions of his sound have been amazing ... read more

KIDS SEE GHOSTS - KIDS SEE GHOSTS
88

Bordering the line between being strange and psychedelic, and futuristic and hopeful, Kids See Ghosts shows Cudi and ye at some of their most vulnerable states during some of the lowest points in their own separate careers, and lives. It feels like the final high point for the careers of two hip-hop giants, and there's something kinda inspiring about some of their best material in years being the product of both of them hitting a certain low point in their own personal lives. And as it's so ... read more

Sigur Rós - Ágætis byrjun
94

In what is perhaps the most stunningly beautiful post-rock album I've ever heard, Sigur Rós make an hour of music that is comparable to having your spirit lifted from your body, or leaving the darkness into a bright new world, a whole life ahead of you now. Most of the lyrics here are pure gibberish, encouraging the listener to turn off their brain and simply let the music speak for itself. The vocals are heavenly, the instrumentals are some of the best I've ever heard, and the ... read more

Björk - Homogenic
89

While it's not my personal favorite from her, I really think Björk came into her own on Homogenic. Breathtaking compositions match flawlessly with the excellent production and electronic beats featured throughout here, and it's all topped off with Björk's wonderfully unique and beautiful voice, making for one of her best records and some of the best songs she's ever done, period.

Taylor Swift - folklore
87

I know this is definitely the obvious pick but... yeah this is probably her best. Not to discredit evermore, which is still amazing! But I don't know what it is about folklore that just works so well but really I would argue this and evermore feature some of her best songs, as well as her best writing by far, and Taylor Swift was already a pretty great writer from a young age. Delicate, sweet, and beautiful, folklore really just features everything I could want in a pop album, incredible ... read more

Madvillain - Madvillainy
96

wow! this album was a massive grower for me!
I will admit with full transparency that I was initially not totally in love with this record at first, however I have since seen the light and have grown to absolutely adore it. This is just... such an impressive project on all fronts. DOOM's flows are unorthodox and strange, Madlib's production is phenomenal and the odd sample choices give the album a lot of character, and every feature here was on their game. This is my favorite hip-hop album ... read more

"@ItsSarahhhh LMAO ur good queen i gotchu. my headphones have been acting up recently so i haven't been listening to much but once i get that sorted i'll probably at least check out iceman, i've heard some snippets of songs that i enjoyed enough to at least be somewhat curious. i also realize that this review makes it seem like i was really angry but im just more confused why theres even still drake hype in 2026"
On Drake - MAID OF HONOUR
"@ItsSarahhhh thats a valid perspective, and im curious to at least check out iceman for that same reason. i've just never fully understood why drake has such a dedicated and loyal audience of listeners when, from what i've gathered, he hasn't made music that's been overall well received in about a decade atp. makes me sad that this same level of attention and hype isn't often given to smaller projects by artists that are working a thousand times harder to deliver a worthwhile product"
