Tyler, The Creator - CHROMAKOPIA
85

I would be honest. This album is not his best work to date. I prefer CMIYGL, Igor and Flower Boy all over this. However, this album shows a new sense of maturity in Tyler. Rather than lyrics based on seeking intimacy and debating about his sexuality, he ponders more on what he is up to face. How this new level of fame would be detrimental to him, familyhood, and seeking validation by being materialistic. Like Him is as emotional as it can get and Sticky and Thought I Was Dead offers the energy ... read more

Dave - We're All Alone In This Together

If J.Cole was Bri'ish. In all fairness, for the conscious hip-hop genre, the pen writing on here is immaculate but in terms of vibes, similar to J.Cole. It feels as though this album is a spoken word to you about the struggles of humans which is good dont get me wrong, but the vibes just aint it. Overall incredible lyricism and message well spread
Fav song: Both Sides of A Smile
Worst Song: Lazarus

Lil Yachty - Let's Start Here.
80

Yachty and his new psychedelia wasn't just a hit on debut, but it succeeded with through the test of time. Skeptics at first thought this would be a failed version in change of genres but clearly Yachty knows what he is doing. The sounds carries what he wants to portray, a love hate relationship where he at last feels drained and frustrated. The sounds sound like he's a veteran in the psychedelia scene and his lyrics deviate from what was a lean addict college fboy.

Travis Scott - UTOPIA

Hindsight 2024, this album feels comparable to Rodeo in some sense in terms of success. Some aged well (90210,FEIN), some mad underrated (Oh My Dis Side, Telekinesis/Modern Jam), some terrible (K-pop, Flying High), and insanely good outros (Apple pie, Til Further Notice). All in all this is still a very good album, but its far from what he can do as his best. It feels like a shift to being more experimental to the dark sounds, and away from catchy rap hooks which serves no purpose.

Saba - CARE FOR ME

Going as an independent artist, this is crazy good work. Busy/Sirens is very touching on the mental health side, Life describes his upbringing, LOGOUT describes the problems with the world today, PROM/KING has some of the best storytelling you could ever find. Everything in this album feels like he is talking to me personally. LOGOUT feels like one Hey Ya from Outkast, upbeat music but dark lyrics. Overall, immaculate album all round, wouldn't expect this from an indie artist.

Saba - Few Good Things

When i listen this album, i expect this to be from a someone tied down to a big label given how good this album is put together. The production alongside the lyricism complemented each other well, overall hard to find a flaw in it other than the occasional shift in vibes. Fearmonger and Stop that feels hard to listen. Stop that has good lyricism from Saba don't get me wrong, but the beat could be better? And i dont get the hate for a Simple Time, i think its one of the more better ... read more

Kendrick Lamar - DAMN.

Not his best work definitely, but one thing it captures is the simplicity of understanding. This album is easy for the casual to understand what his music is trying to mean without sacrificing it with terrible lyricism. However, this album feels like its targeted to the general public more with hits such as LOVE., and HUMBLE. Not all is bad, but definitely appeals more to the general public while retaining all of his good qualities. Energy and storytelling still present throughout the entirety ... read more

Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly

Enough to make a Chinese man feel black. Its powerful, it incorporates what black music is truly about. This album is a statement to Dre and everyone from the black community. Every song here is powerful from Wesley's theory to Alright to The blacker the berry. To discussing various topic about mental health on u and i, to emphasizing the down sides of lust on These walls. This album has immaculate jazz influence, and phenomenal lyricism. Everything is perfect down to the minute ... read more

Kanye West - ye

Short, simple and emotional. This album is easy to digest and it's paints a vivid picture of Ye's current state. You feel for his love to his then spouse Kim, you feel the vulnerability from 070 shake off of Ghost Town, you experience his bipolar state in Yikes. It's what stands out from other albums. Touching on the taboo subject. Excellent production and rapping. Cudi also provided very good finishing touches.

Dave & Central Cee - Split Decision
70

First UK rap project i listen to in full. Opened my eyes to how good Dave is as a rapper, probably the UK Kendrick/Jay-Z. Trojan Horse and Sprinter is easily the best songs. Our 25th Birthday is decent, UK Rap is kind of forgettable. Overall, Dave really carried this. Central Cee wasn't bad but just got outclassed by Dave. Top tier lyricism from Dave.
Best Song: Trojan Horse (prefer it over sprinter)
Worst Song: UK Rap

Daniel Caesar - Freudian

This album's credit goes to the wrong place. Get You and Best part are easily the most famous songs. However, the whole album is even better. Hold me Down, Take Me Away, Freudian are all just beautiful in their right. I want to compare this Frank's Blonde but it just feels cruel to compare people's art. Syd's feature is fucking underrated and deserves more credit. Overall, the features, production and performance from Daniel here is just immaculate.

Daniel Caesar - CASE STUDY 01

Beautiful album in general. Entropy and Cyanide feels like the beginning of someone's Adult life, Frontal lobe muzik's production by pharrell is excellent. Too deep to turn back and Are you ok? are perfect as closing songs to close out the album. However, i do wish complexities is not in this tracklist, the song just feels out of place with the funky production and lyrics.

Daniel Caesar - NEVER ENOUGH
75

My introduction to Daniel Caesar. The first half of the album feels like his best work to date, commercially. However it can feel repetitive overtime. The backstretch (after cool) is what sets the tempo of another half. The other half feels more vulnerable to the surroundings rather than just mentioning about his lover. It feels more relatable to the general public. Overall, to date probably his worst album, not to say it's bad, but i prefer his other works

Enough to make a grown man cry. This is an experience and a story combined into one and is what sets the gold standard for modern R&B. good on the vocals, great production and overall it must feels immersive. Every song on here paints a picture of the scenario, every song here can be an individual vibe. Features from Beyonce, Tyler, Kanye, Yung Lean, Andre 3000 for finishing touches. This album is what you would imagine of a love live. Dysfunctional and beautiful.

JID - The Forever Story

This album should be in museums. Easily one of if not the best album of 2020s. 2022 was one fucking heck of a year with releases from Kendrick and Denzel. Raydar is a fantastic energy track, repping his old style of spitting lighting quick bars, Kody Blu 31 is him singing (but not is a bad way), Burddanem and Sistanem are fantastic introspective tracks, Stars JID verse is so flowy, and feature from Wayne, Earthgang, 21 Savage, Ari Lennox all cannot be forgotten.

Isaiah Rashad - The Sun's Tirade

This is what a would imagine a harmonious blend between R&B and hip-hop. SZA, Syd and Kendrick all easily have the best features and no to mention Isaiah Rashad's style of a flowy, vibey rapping style plays in so well to their strengths and weaknesses. However, some tracks are more forgettable than others and most of them come from the back stretch (hot take) Brenda is a good concluding song, I dont hate it but track 11-14 kind of is a snooze fest? Overall this is excellent work and I ... read more

Comparing this to Vultures 2, signs of quality is still here. It's still bad by Kanye's standards. Album feels directionless, could probably call this a leak and no one would ever figure out the difference. Ty Dolla Sign really carried this album, intro track is pretty good, other than that i would say aside from Burn, Fuk Sumn, Carnival, Back to Me, everything is just forgettable
Best Song: Burn, Back to Me
Worst Song: Hoodrat
Edit: Mistake in text

¥$ - VULTURES 2

So forgettable, everything is just fucking shambolic. This album is not an experience, this album doesn't represent anything except for Ty Dolla Sign's brother. North West needs to go solo if she wants to have a prosperous career.
Best Song: Field Trip? (idk it's so shit that i dont want to listen to it ever again)
Worst Song: Everything lol

Don Toliver - HARDSTONE PSYCHO

Anthony Fantano is way too harsh on this IMO. First listen definitely is rough probably like a 4/10 or something but after multiple listens you can see the vision. Feels like this album is a move away from his previous sound and has sort of a similar vibe to 2093 by Yeat. Kodak's feature is kinda shit ngl. Tame Impala sample is kinda random. Travis features are below average to say the least.
Best Song: BACKSTREETS
Worst Song: Brother Stone

Kendrick Lamar - good kid, m.A.A.d city

Definition of one of the best albums of all time. Top tier lyricism, top tier production. This is what old heads would hope modern hip-hop would be. From the story telling of SAMIDOT, to the summer vibes of Money Trees, to fantastic features of Jay Rock, Drake, MC Eiht to Anna Wise. It doesn't get any better than that.
Best Song: m.A.A.d city, SAMIDOT
Worst Song: No
