even more expansive and mystifying than mazy fly was, and that's already an album i love to death, all with the craftsmanship of someone who knows their way around a great art pop record. i love this :)
i like black dresses with synths. i also like black dresses with guitars :)
but real talk though, the band has had a pretty tumultuous past year, and they reflect that a lot in their music here. it's deeply introspective stuff, but they're also relatable as hell with it and i feel that in time, this is going to be the album that i think of when i think of black dresses. i love their more metal-influenced sound on forever in your heart, which is strange because i don't really like metal at ... read more
i love the dreamy vibes on here (especially on "the museum," "dream," and "blue candle"), and colde does a really good job at establishing a loungey feel for most of the ep, but i have no clue why "lighter" is on here because that song kinda sucks 💔
i've come to greatly enjoy pale waves's 2018 debut since i first heard it, so i was excited to hear how they'd follow it up, and although who am i? doesn't hit the same retro-ish marks as that album, it *does* give me the same feelings as some really specific early-2010s pop rock—"tonight tonight" and "want u back" specifically—albeit with a sanitized pop punk edge that's nothing but refreshing and cathartic in a way.
"badibaba," "the crack," and "where do we go from here?" make me hopeful that i'm going to appreciate this album more with time. right now, though, i don't fully click with goat girl's sound, but i greatly enjoyed a majority of their ideas and melodies and general grooviness.
for the first time is a super promising debut by the london band, and its many twists and turns make for a super forward-thinking and interesting listen that's 100% worth it. the album doesn't have much replay value, but wow was it a treat to experience. "science fair," "sunglasses," and "opus" are highlights.
cosmorama is the latest effort of psychedelic pop group beautify junkyards, and it hits those same magical highs as their other projects, especially since it's shrouded in this atmospheric aura.
i was really excited for this! i love power electronics and although this album presents some really challenging and harsh noises that i absolutely adore, a lot of it ends up sounding same-y and i dont feel like its replay value is going to be much.
so many little french pop ideas that all hit that sweet spot in my brain!! absolutely love this
i'm not sure how an album can simultaneously be as ominous as it is dreamy, but soft bonds covers both of these based with sparse, ambient electronics that only empower the feelings it gives off. loved it.
paranoia is the emo-pop throwback that i didn't know i needed. i'm not really huge on that scene because it all kinda blends together for me, so this debut ep from maggie lindemann is the huge upgrade in terms of aesthetics and i'm all here for it. "gaslight!," "crash and burn," "different," and "it's not your fault" are highlights.
magic mirror is the type of soft rock that just makes me feel all warm inside, and it's definitely a solid introduction to pearl charles as an artist—i had no clue who she even was before this, and i really liked what i heard here so i'm excited to see what she does next. "only for tonight" and "slipping away" are huge highlights that are probably gonna stick with me for a while.
although blame game isnt as polished or catchy as beach bunny's debut album last year, it still sports the same sort of atmosphere and performances that made me love it so much. "nice guys" and "blame game" have been in my head since i first heard this like two weeks ago.
music planet is a cool little concept album about, well, music planet, i'm guessing. it's a nice soundtrack to an idea that i can only envision in my head, but it works well.
wasteland is such a surreal post-punk album. it's equally as experimental with its sound as it is ominous and disturbing and somehow catchy??? loved it, especially tracks like "arbiter" and "clear."
telephone dreams is a cute little synthpop album that sounds like it's the soundtrack to an equally as cute and little life simulation video game. it's so soothing and sweet and i just really like it 🥺
this was the first project i listened to this year, and wow is it disappointing. ashnikko proves once again that although she releases super catchy singles that are full of personality, her actual projects fall flat and fall hard. the only song that i would return to from demidevil is "daisy," since the rest is so forgettable. i wish she'd do more.
