now THIS is how you make punk music that's interesting. i love how abrasive it is and how it's willing to take risks (because they succeed most of the time), and it's wrapped up into a short half-hour that feels refreshing more than anything.
is there a reason that the opener and closer of this album are so much better than the rest??? because oh my it's disappointing, almost repulsive at points in the middle, especially after the album is set up as something that it's just not. i hope that the band continues to explore the sounds that they had on "post truth (birth of a nation)" and "angel dust (eternal peace)," since they were so interesting and totally something i wouldn't expect from a punk album, but ... read more
fantasize your ghost is an interesting album with all sorts of ideas sprinkled into it, especially on songs like "selling candy," "the limit," and "sturgeon moon," but sometimes i feel like it relies too heavily on being weird and that takes away from my enjoyment of it a little bit.
adult. new album is the latest in their string of consistently dark, consistently great electroclash, and it's just as dark and harsh as i like it. this is definitely going to grow on me.
lilith is such a strange album. i wouldn't quite call it dreamy, although it's surreal as all hell and certainly unlike anything else i've listened to this year, but it's not nightmarish either, instead existing in this weird state of limbo between the two and using that uncanniness to its fullest potential. "raw," "shadow seduction," and "sphinx moth" are some of this album's best cuts.
this album pulled me in so quickly with warm guitars and an enchanting vibe, and it kept me invested until it was over. "message in a bottle," "masks, highways, sewers, cups, masks," and "neptune song" all stand out, although the whole album may as well.
i'm normally not a huge fan of classic rock, so i didn't really have high expectations going into this album because i've heard a few comments about how this is like,, a modernized version of it, and after listening to it... yeah, it pretty much is. honestly i'm just glad i came out of it bored instead of disgusted.
inner song is really warm and ethereal, especially for a tech album of all things, and although i prefer kelly lee owens's debut to it, there's no denying that this is the mechanical equivalent to a warm hug.
i wish i had more to say. i fuckin wish i had more to say, but shabrang is one of the few albums that has left me utterly speechless. it's some of the most haunting r&b that i think there is—even more than her previous album ison—and oh my god do i think it's worth listening to.
whereas katy perry's previous album, witness, showed her emergence as a great fuckin' pop artist (it's a super underrated album and it's definitely worth a relisten!!!), smile just... pales in comparison. apart from "never really over" and "harleys in hawaii," i would not choose return to anything from smile, since it's so boring. i couldn't tell you anything about the other ten songs on this album, and that's not good considering that katy perry has proven to make more ... read more
club future nostalgia is the soundtrack that would play at a fantasy discotheque that only exists in the mind's eye, and wow it does a great job at that. although most of the remixes on this album don't capture the original spirit of the original future nostalgia, they're adapted gorgeously into a continuous stream of house jams that are super danceable and let you know it. my favorite song on both projects is "love again," and on club future nostalgia it's made so much more dreamy ... read more
no dogs allowed is an expertly-written twee album that's just,, so fun!! "sin triangle," "persephone," and ESPECIALLY "imposter syndrome" are great tracks, and wow,,
well if this isn't some of the sweetest punk music i've heard! it's so cute and i just want to give this album a big hug.
dark rift is one of the craziest pop albums i think i've heard, with super dense production that closes me in and really unique sounds and ideas that are pulled off pretty well. "goth star," "cyclical cyclical (atlantis)," "time teens," and "new mind" specifically are four songs that exemplify what i love about this album.
modern times is a charming k-pop album that i really enjoyed, with super jazzy and vibey production that's really warm and inviting.
come and get it is home to some of the most interesting and ear-catching pop music of all time? i guess? and every single hook on here sticks the landing, as does the nostalgic yet forward-thinking production, rachel stevens's strong vocals, and just the overwhelmingly positive energy coming from this album.
"when the dreams run dry" is an amazing song from this album, but everything else leaves a sour taste in my mouth that i can't quite explain why. maybe it's because these songs sound like they're supposed to be played in a huge stadium, an aesthetic i'm not a huge fan of; maybe it's because the songs are underwhelming and honestly a little boring at times; maybe it's because i'm subconsciously comparing this album to "mr. brightside," the song which the killers have been ... read more
