No Joy - Motherhood
77

i wanted to like this album more than i did, especially since i loved their 2015 album more faithful (and that i'm biased towards goats!!!), but i don't think it's as great as i wanted it to be. don't get me wrong, i still think it's a good album, but its sound is a lot more muddled and messy than what i like, and even if a lot of the songs at their cores are great ("dream rats," "nothing will hurt," "ageless," and "why mothers die" are all amazing), some ... read more

Cocanha - Puput
72

considering i have absolutely zero exposure to this type of folk music, i'm surprised at how much i enjoyed it, especially songs like "quauque còp" and "la sovenença." it's overall really pretty.

Bright Eyes - Down in the Weeds, Where the World Once Was
87

the long-awaited return of bright eyes sees the band return with a great and poetic album that has more chilling moments than anything else i can think of right now, especially on "persona non grata" and "comet song."

Beach Bunny - Honeymoon
92

super solid power pop with a punch. for being only 25 minutes long, there's enough energy on honeymoon to last for years to come.

Coldplay - Everyday Life
71

the first half of this album is utterly gorgeous and seems like a fitting follow up to viva la vida, and honestly it would have been enough to satisfy me. the second half, though? IT SUCKS. i can't really describe it better than that; it's so much less inventive, less engaging, and less interesting than the first half and brings this album down by a lot.

Coldplay - A Head Full of Dreams
35

this is just a worse version of mylo xyloto.

Coldplay - Ghost Stories
38

apart from the beautiful soundscape of "midnight," this album was so, so bad. there's certainly a way to introduce ambience into stuff without making it boring, but this album fails completely at that and is such a drag to get though.

Coldplay - Mylo Xyloto
46

it's like... it's like they took what i hated from their first album and mixed it with the type of feel-good radio pop that gets under my skin!!! not a good look, coldplay.

94

i'm not sure how coldplay managed to go from being a completely mediocre and boring band to actually making something truly magnificent, but i'm all here for it! viva la vida or death to all his friends is a modern classic in my opinion, and it has coldplay's best material of any album on it.

Coldplay - X&Y
75

i think that x&y is a super consistent album, since there's nothing that really makes this album suffer, and it's all upbeat and actually interesting.

Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head
70

a rush of blood to the head is definitely an upgrade from coldplay's debut, with, like, listenable songs for once, and it has a whole lot of energy that the band hadn't had before. "the scientist," "clocks," and "daylight" specifically really stand out as good songs.

Coldplay - Parachutes
64

i came out of this album bored. i have nothing to say other than apart from a few decent hooks on this album, coldplay does nothing for me here.

Will Wood & The Tapeworms - SELF-iSH
86

after listening to will wood's the normal album, i decided to give his other work a chance because,, well, i love dark cabaret. i have no idea how he went so wrong on that album because THIS ONE oh my gosh this one,, self-ish is such an interesting mixture of alternative rock and dark cabaret (a welcome one, a very welcome one), and every song on here is so fun and unique,, exactly what i look for in a dark cabaret album!!

Ms Nina - Perreando Por Fuera, Llorando Por Dentro
80

i'm normally not a huge reggaeton fan, but this mixtape is so interesting to me,, almost like it takes place in some digital world or something.

Mother Falcon - You Knew
95

you knew is hands down one of the prettiest albums i've ever listened to,, the STRINGS!!!!!! especially on tracks like "marigold," "sleep," and "i dream of water," the orchestration on this album is brilliant and awe-inspiring, probably one of my favorite chamber pop albums.

Daphne & Celeste - Daphne & Celeste Save The World
92

daphne & celeste really DO save the world with this album,, gosh it's actually great!! unlike their previous album, released like 20 years before this one, daphne & celeste give us a serious body of work (as opposed to the novelty of we didn't say that!), all while keeping their cutesy sound and updating it for modern times, with really interesting production choices and all around great stuff. loved it!!

Daphne & Celeste - We Didn't Say That!
77

we didn't say that! is pure bubblegum bliss, plain pop fun. it's a wacky album, bordering on being annoying half the time, but it manages to stay just short of that line for most of its songs, making them even more interesting in my opinion. plus, i'd be lying if i said that "peek-a-boo" didn't give me chills,, like actual goosebumps.

Angélica Garcia - Cha Cha Palace
82

cha cha palace is good!! it's good.

IC3PEAK - До Свидания
75

when my friend showed me ic3peak like,, a year ago, we didn't really take them all too seriously because we thought that they were too bombastic, but after listening to their latest album, i can say that i get their appeal now. this one is a whole lot more toned down in my opinion, and it's a whole lot easier to listen to.

CocoRosie - Put The Shine On
82

cocorosie has consistently put out decent albums, but put the shine on is probably the first i'd say is like, good. i thought it was a lot more engaging than their previous work, even if a little silly at times, and tracks like "did me wrong" and "burning down the house" are both really interesting and stand out.
