This should have been released as one song and not two seperate ones
Chris made too many good tracks so he didn't know which ones to leave off of this project. Most of the songs are just not engaging and diverse enough to justify over 90 minutes.
After DJ Premiers amazing first EP of this Hip Hop 50 series I was really excited for the next ones. Than it took way more than the promised 3 months for the second Volume to drop. Now it's finally here and well... it's pretty disappointing.
I fear that this series might not even come to an end considering how long it took for this one to come out and how little attention this series seems to get...
Really good but most of the album doesn't reach the heights of the brilliant singles.
Highlights: "Free Yourself", "Pearls" & "Begin Again"
Really enjoyable mostly because of the nice and consistent sample-heavy production and Harlow's flows. Jack Harlow also improved lyrically on this one. My biggest critique is that a lot of the tracks are too short to really complete the concepts of the songs.
Highlights: "They Don't Love It", "Ambitious", "Gang Gang Gang" & "Blame On Me"
Really solid pop record.
Highlights: "Midnight Dreams", "Like A Saviour", "Easy Lover" & "Let It Die"
I actually thought "I'm Good" wasn't as bad as everybody was saying. However this one is not it.
Really good, interesting and versatile production from Skrillex here. Enjoyable record all throughout.
Highlights: "Don't Leave Me Like This", "Butterflies" & "XENA"
The first 5 tracks are good but most of the other ones are trash.
Highlights: "Way Back", "Real Spring" & "Don't Go"
The definition of quality over quantity. Only 10 songs on this album but every single one is good. In a time where 20+ songs albums are the norm, this is really a relief.
Highlights: "This Is Why", "The News", "Figure 8" & "Thick Skull"
The first half of this is some of the best pop music I've heard the last couple years. Unfortunately the second half is nowhere near as good as the first.
Highlights: "Black Mascara.", "Escapism.", "The Thrill Is Gone." & "Worth It."
One of the biggest artistic transformations of all time. Who would have expected Yachty had a project like this in him? I certainly wasn't. So this is a huge surprise which made my experience listening to this for the first time even better.
The production is excellent, the features are great (especially Diana Gordon, who stole the show multiple times) but Yachty held his own. His vocals aren't what you would normally hear over this instrumentation. However his voice is what makes this project ... read more
