Nas - Illmatic
96

One of the best rap albums I've ever heard period. I used to be be resistant to rap music in my younger years, and this was one of the albums that changed my mind completely! It's a classic, when I listen to it it's very hard to believe it's from 1994 because it was sooo far ahead of its time. I love nas till this day, love his flow so much, but I'm not sure if he could ever top this album, he really came out swinging! Right from the first song, I was replaying songs back to back to back just ... read more

Lemon Demon - Damn Skippy
90

I remember stumbling apon lemon demon early on when he had a flash animated music video to "The ultimate showdown" and thinking that not only was he funny, but he could definitely write a good song too! And man I've been interested in the music ever since, although obviously he probably doesn't get much radio play because of the independent nature of the music, I was and still am very impressed by this album in particular! There really isn't a bad track on the album, it's almost ... read more

Muse - Absolution
90

Muse is a truly unique band, I'm not sure anyone else really sounds like them, and they have a lot of music to listen too, each with it's own aesthetic and story to tell, but for me it all starts with hearing "time is running out" on the radio and I've been hooked ever since. It feels like an opera when you listen to it all the way through, with moods coming and going, great rock music and piano playing, I get swept up in the operatic singing and distorted guitar. This album will ... read more

TOOL - 10,000 Days
96

Man do I love me some tool! The musical complexity, heavy distorted tones and awesome rhythm of their song writing always get me immersed in their music. The way I see it there are basically three types of tool fans; the ones who think anema is the best album, the others who think it's Lateralus. And the third group (maybe we are smaller) that think it's this album. I mean all three are great but this is the one I always find myself going back too the most. I even remember showing 10000 days ... read more

Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf
93

I love Queens a lot, definitely one of my personal favorites bands ever! I love the darkness in their sound and I'm their style in general, and I've loved most of their work! But this one really is special because cmon man, David grohl sounds amazing on this album! He really makes the difference, josh was always going to make great hard rock music no matter who is in the band, but having such a power house drummer definitely takes the sound of this album to the next level. "no one ... read more

Maroon 5 - Songs About Jane
89

I really have not followed this band closely at all, but when I heard "this love" for the first time I was instantly hooked. Sometimes a band comes along and their first album is just really special, right place right time sorta thing. Like bat out of hell by meatloaf, I think for me it was this album than nothing ever came close to touching what they had on this record. Ok yeah there are some sappy songs like "she will loved", but I dare you to listen to "harder to ... read more

Bruno Mars - 24K Magic
92

I admit it, I'm definitely a rock snob. I look down my nose at pop music, but everyone once and a while someone from the pop world really impresses me and this guy blows me away. He can sing very well, and he can play too. And boy does it show In the way he puts an album together like this one. The sound quality! The instrument arrangement! The album sounds so damn crisp, every mix sounds perfect to my ear. It's just plain good music, it's fun, it's everything a pop album should be, this guy is ... read more

Modest Mouse - Good News For People Who Love Bad News
94

While modest mouse had a huge library of music before they signed with epic records label, in my opinion this 4th studio album might be their best work to date. More focused, energetic, and sonically all over the place, modest mouse in my opinion does what most bands are afraid to do, and that's make very original and memorable music that's unique to them. When I first got this record when I was younger, I didn't really like it , I don't think I was ready, but then I really like "the ... read more

Rush - Moving Pictures
93

Rush has an impressive discography, they changed a lot over the many years that they played and toured, and there are a lot of great eras in the bands long history of making awesome prog rock, but if I had to only name one album to listen to by them I would definitely tell them moving pictures. Everyone knows Tom Sawyer already, but really the 7 tracks are all amazing and worth a listen. If you value challenging rhythms and epic instrumental skill, it's a show of song writing and musicianship ... read more

Weezer - Weezer (Blue Album)
91

While they would go on to have a long and storied career after this album, I think it can be argued easily that their first album was their best. I also really love pinkerton a lot for it's more experimental sound, the blue album is pretty close to a masterpiece from begining to end... Ok so maybe buddy holly might be a bit overplayed for me at this point, but you can't deny that everyone 90s and some 2000's rock band was stealing that sound off of this debut album (including me lol) and for ... read more

The Strokes - Room on Fire
97

Im a pretty big strokes fan, I like all their music for the most part, but this album really is the peak of their sound and their song writing personally. I really loved the first albums garage band style music, but on their sophomore album is when they really step it up with their style! Reptilia is probably the best and most popular track and for a good reason, it's a great rock tune with great guitar work... Really everyone plays their parts well the whole album, my personal favorite song is ... read more

OK Go - Oh No
88

When I first heard ok go, I just thought it was another run of the mill , sugary sweet pop rock band. Everyone knows this is the song with the treadmills, but to me the album is so much more than that! Yes the music is pop rock, but this album proves that they have deceiving depth. I love the bass line from a million ways to be cruel, and most the songs on this album won't get a skip from me. Maybe most people aren't crazy about ok go, but I for one think they might be criminally underated and ... read more

Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II
95

Although I think houses of holy is my favorite album, this is the other one I have to consider because of how many guys iconic tracks come off this one album, a little more refined than the first album, it's peak hard rock led Zeppelin. If you don't like a song off of this album, you simply don't like led Zeppelin

Herbie Hancock - Head Hunters
100

Its been years since I first heard this album , and I love it just as much as the first time I've heard it. It's definitely earned a reputation as a great jazz fusion album, and anytime I play the first track I'm tempted to let the whole thing play. It's a groove, it's fun. He has so many great albums but this will always be my favorite

They Might Be Giants - The Else
84

I would understand that maybe this isn't everyone's cup of tea, and that's fine. But I find myself putting this album on maybe as much as the spine and I can listen to it all the way through, a very underrated band , and a wealth of material to pull from, this being one of their best works

The Doors - The Doors
95

Probably one of the most influential psychedelic rock albums of all time. They start off their career strong, and end it strong too (check out l.a. woman) it's got a heavy sound that rocks all the way through, and leaves you in a wild trip with "the end".

Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon
100

What can I say that hasn't already been said? If you like music at all it's probably something everyone should listen to. It master's mood, atmosphere, story telling, and dramatic musical playing. Its iconic and a must listen to album. Some music is just meant for a song or two, but every song here fits together like a puzzle piece

Megadeth - Rust in Peace
92

I love me some metal, but especially trash metal! And I'm not sure if it gets better than this album personally! Banger after banger, masterful guitar work, and it has tornado of souls for gods sake! Must listen to for any metal lover

The Beatles - Abbey Road
99

It took me much longer to appreciate this album, I was too young for the later Beatles growing up, but now that I'm a adult this has become one of my favorite albums to listen to all the way through. The ending of an area , it can be hard to pick which Beatles album is the best, and usually the answer is always changing, but the older I get the more I find myself listening to this one

Beck - Odelay
100

This album came at the perfect time for me growing up, it had a long lasting impact of my taste in rock music or just music in general! One thing I enjoy about music is risk taking and experimenting, this album does just that! There's so much going on in any given song, it takes you up and down and all around, with rustic noises and sexy drum loops, personally one of the best albums I've ever heard
