Lil Yachty - Let's Start Here.

Finally got around to reviewing this, listened to it a few months ago but I felt like it deserved a few more listens. I actually wasn't all that familiar with Lil Yachty's work before this, though I knew who he was, but even not being familiar with his previous work, a contemporary Hip Hop artist pivoting into psych-rock and it's actually good? very impressive. This is such an ambitious album and sometimes it succeeds and sometimes it falls just a bit short in my opinion. It ranges from some ... read more
Charli XCX - Vroom Vroom

Charli's first foray into her slightly more experimental hyperpop sound she's become known for and I'm pretty sure this is one of the first if not the first instance of the more weird antics coming from the folks at PC Music being brought into a more mainstream release and I remember this EP turning some heads on release including mine, but honestly I think it's actually aged very well.
The Beatles - Please Please Me

Never really got super into The Beatles, but since I saw this recently turned 60 I figured it was a decent place to start. If this weren't the beatles debut though I doubt this would still be talked about. It's not bad it's just mostly kinda serviceable but bland sappy meandering pop rock with a few standouts, Twist and Shout definitely being the biggest banger right at the end of the at times kinda boring half-hour runtime. Again nothing egregiously bad but aside from a few songs not much ... read more
George Clanton - Ooh Rap I Ya

I listened to a couple of these tracks on their own and was really wondering if "I Been Young" was going to be the only song I liked but when I listened to the whole album it really clicked. While I kinda wish there were more anthemic songs like "Justify Your Life" and "I Been Young", which was one of my favorite songs last year, overall this is a pretty fantastic album experience. It's SO 90s in a very good way and I love how that's played with in the "I Been ... read more
Charli XCX - SUCKER

Wild how this is almost 10 years old now. This isn't THAT bad guys, though I admit it's not Charli's strongest work and I may or may not have nostalgia goggles for some of these tracks. This albums oscillates between some legit pop rock bangers that make me think Charli could absolutely return to this style and kill it, before going back to what kinda feels like a worse version GUTS at times tbh. Boom Clap is a legitimately great pop rock track and despite being very childish I find Break the ... read more

About

My ratings probably seem overly positive but that's because if I hate something I'm rarely gonna keep listening enough for me to feel justified in rating it. Too many good albums on my list to listen to and I'd just rather listen to those instead.
