I hope the people involved in making this album have an original thought someday.
I can see why some people were disappointed with this, it's basically performance art sprinkled with some pop rap, especially once you get into his lowkey delivery on "Auntie Diaries" and "Mother I Sober" it's easy to see how to some people his quiet vulnerability was a bit of a let down. But in my opinion, this is another masterpiece from Kendrick, albeit one which leans a bit too much on his message (instead of the music) for its greatness. Nevertheless it excels ... read more
To some extent, the anti-Mr Morale. This is pretty much all music, no real message beyond "fuck the industry" where Mr Morale was all message. It's just a fun victory lap and I guess you're either running it with him and enjoying yourself or you're grumbling on the sidelines.
This album is cozy as fuck. It sounds like a messy, loving relationship.
Still a good album but just feels like more of the same. Loved maddy's song though.

One of the most beautiful things I have ever heard. Simultaneously a powerful reflection on letting go and death as well as an anti-suicide message.
This album hasn't been out for long but it's so important to me, lived off this shit when I moved away for university. Unfortunately it's a short album with one average track (Mezzanine Tippin') which drags it down.
A few disposable tracks frankly but the production is obviously fucking amazing and so are jpegmafia and danny brown's performances.
Viscerally beautiful and raw even if it's a bit repetitive.
Okay yes he's a massive Kanye rip-off but the music is still pretty good even if he's not the most original.
I'm disappointed but it's still good. The absence of Ghais' lyrical wit and overt political anger as a consequence of the concept definitely places this album beneath There Will Be No Super Slave for me. However, the production is still generally on the same level as TWBNSS.
